Any issues with brake performance?
I was wondering how the brakes held up under hard use in the real world.
The reason I ask is that I have a full set of calipers from a 2013 E63. They're the red units that flake and peel. This set was replaced under warranty while I worked at the dealership. When MB said scrap them, they landed in my garage.
Last fall I picked up a 2013 CL65. It has those odd dual floating piston front calipers and single rear floating pieces. You've surely seen them on 221 and 216 AMG cars. They're famous for losing their powder coat somewhere around the third brake application. Parking brake is drum in hat. Rotor diameter and thickness is the same as the late W212 E63.
Since I have to get calipers coated I was thinking about installing the 6/4 piston E63 calipers on on the car. I have experience machining caliper mounts and the total brake piston volume is so close between the two setups that the car will never know the difference.
My CL65 tipped the scales at 5090 lbs with me and a full tank of gas so it's similar to a 212 with 2 or 3 passengers.
I do drive a bit (considerably?) more aggressive than your typical CL owner and have blued the rotors on occasion.
Total pad area up front will be a touch less with the 212 calipers while the rears are similar in size.
The CL65 is stock for now. I did manage a 11.82 @ 120 in a 1.88 60' a couple weeks ago. She's a big girl but will lift her skirt and run. A locking diff is on order and a tune will follow. The Michelin PS4S don't hook at 50 mph or below.
This is my daily but I have two other vehicles to use while the CL is down for a swap.
Anyway, would you folks run the E63 brakes or stick with the weirdo dual calipers?

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
The red will pop better. I track my tuned e63 (1/2, 1/4 mile events, and the steels brakes are awesome)

Maybe the 6 pots perform better, but I think the larger caliper LOOKS sexier.... maybe not in your current color scheme

Those dual caliper contraptions are kinda cheesy.
that big yellow cover out front is just a piece of stamped steel designed to make them look nifty. The AMG plates are the anti rattle springs with big faces to be pretty.
The rear anti rattle springs are impossible to install without gouging the powder coat.
They look nifty but are awkward under the cosmetics.
