M157, Keeper?

Hello to all, I know this is not an s class thread but you guys are more active, I have been reading on this forum since I was a kid and now, fortunately I am the proud owner of a C217 s63 from 2015. Got it with 54k km and Im now at 111k km. Mostly trouble free:
-brake discs, pretty costly stuff but last a long time so good for me;
-pulleys and belt;
-front-upper and front lower suspension arms, bad roads in italy;
-alternator pulley;
-spark plugs;
-one ignition coil;
-diffs and trans oil at 70k;
I do my oil changes on the amg 0w40 at 7-8k km. I drive 50/50 really calm or really maniac, car eats 1 maybe 1.5 liters of oil between changes.
I follow the yt of Tasos from the UAE, and was scared of tunes so I am bone stock.
I want to ask you what should I do, stick with this one or maybe get the newer one with the M177? And what oil do you use and is good for you(I use the Amg branded oil)?
Any suggestions about maybe what I should prepare to change next if I decide to hold the car?
I await your advice!

If any m157 is a keeper, yours is. Well maintained, frequent oil changes, not tuned or abused.

coolant lines, coolant reservoir, 010 pump, front diff seepage, some things that may be headed your way. Connectors that are plastic take a beating with the heat generated by this engine.

check for oil seepage in the cps x 4 and solenoids x 4 and good to change them out as preventative measure.

Scope cylinders for scoring at next plug change or sooner. Cylinder 1 and 5 in particular.

check out the sticky for more info including discussions on keeping an m157 long term and common points of weakness/concern on the m157:

Wow that thread has all the info, thanks for your reply, love your E63s load piece of kit, I forgot to mention I also changed the expansion tank(it had a small crack), besides the well known front cover leaks, plastic cap near the water pump oil leak and a small leak near the vacuum pump no visible oil leaks anywhere else. However there is one leak that annoys me, a coolant one, Its at the back of the engine but seems really small because the intercooler never asks for coolant neither the expansion tank.

I think both M157 and M177 are great motors. They are both also pretty much the last of the line for V8s. So, they are both "keepers" IMO if you already own one.

I love the sound of the M157. I like the fact that it's larger displacement than the M177. I feel there is less aftermarket support for the M157, though. That may be changing slowly over time (in large part to the TCU tunes), but there is currently "enough" support there - just not as much as for the newer motor.

I've seen high mileage M157s for sale, I've seen high horsepower M157s, and I've also heard horror stories about the M157. I think it's not a bad engine. Just requires good, solid maintenance, as well as not being overly aggressive about mods and tuning. If you're going to go for really high horsepower, you have to have the supporting mods for it.

Timely thread.

My 2015 E63s comes off extended warranty this week and currently has 35k miles.

The only issue was leaking cam sensors under warranty, noticed during regular maintenance.

OEM tires are due to be replaced due to age, not wear. Winter tires similarly will be replaced after the next winter, due to age versus wear.
I primarily use the car for winter duty and when shuttling more than 1 passenger around.

Owning an AMG off warranty does raise an eyebrow, but confident that with regular care that it should hopefully last a while. And for the $$$, best bang for the buck (that can carry 4 adults in extreme comfort).
Due to the huge wealth of information on this website, and a willingness to make use of an Indy shop/myself the costs are not prohibitive for ongoing maintenance.

My colleague just traded his 2014 E63 for a 2023 E63 and it raised the question of what to do myself. I thinking keeping the 2015 makes the most sense for me.

Thanks to all that post DIY / insight into the M157.

@Highline-Autos.com

Thanks for that post.

As far as I have been told in the past Fidelity warranties were not good/covered in Canada.

Has that changed?

Correct, Canada is seen as a "new territory", but we have customers with Fidelity policies either side of the border, the only requirement is the vehicle's VIN has to read eligible in our system, and for us as a retailer, we just need an explainable US address for the policy, second home, family/friend's, vacation home... something like that.
