Canadian AMG

Fellow AMG'ers: I'm considering buying an AMG E63 S 2014 W212 Facelift with low miles. Car was originally delivered in Canada. What potential issues might I face in the USA in driving/servicing a German made AMG that was first owned in Canada? Does it have a engine block plug-in to heat the block during cold Alberta months? Will the Distronic Cruise Control work in the USA? My personal "oh ****" radar is tingling. I have the lastvin.com Vin Decoder sheet with all the Codes, but I don't know what the Codes mean, other than the ones with explanatory words. Any thoughts?

Thank you. Appreciate your time.

My E39 M5 was from Canada and I experienced absolutely nothing different owning the car in California.

Buy with confidence on that end.

My 1999 E55 is originally from Canada. The only thing different about it is that the odometer and trip meter read in kilometers rather than miles. I could get it recoded but I rather like that. It does make it interesting having to work kilometers to miles and miles to kilometers conversions in my head while on a road trip. Oh yeah, the service interval is listed in kilometers rather than miles but that is no biggie.

2014 E63 AMG wagon 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 1970 AMC AMX
I purchased My wagon in June. Originally a Canadian market car sold at Oakmont MB. The car was federalized and the only issue I have is the analog speedo doesn't seem to be accurate compared to a GPS speed check. The digital speedo is right on. Personally I feel the Canadian cars are a bonus. Mine has 3 zone climate and heated rear seats standard which as far as I can tell were options is the U.S. I maybe wrong on this but they are cool options.

You may not be able to buy and extended warranty on it ... since from Canada, ask @Highline-Autos.com he will know.

I have a 2014 canadian market car that I imported myself. 3 zone a/c. is a plus, temp read out for climate control is in centigrade and cant be changed easily, no warranty support (but out of warranty anyway) I've had no issues with it, even had a duplicate key made at a local dealer which is very VIN specific and no problem. My distronic and all electronics work fine. My car was from toronto so more salt used on roads which is not a plus but underside looks comperable to any east coast car I've seen. The dollar exchange rate made it a super value for me and I have no regrets over 3 years later...

I learned through my buddies @PeterUbers and @I.T. Guy that Canadian W212 E63's have power folding side mirrors that US E63s don't have (in addition to the climate control thing)

At first I thought celsius readout for climate control a bummer but then realized the number doesn't matter. If cold push up, hot push down.

For sure, the temp read out has been a non-issue for me as well...cool to learn about my folding mirrors, need to test that out today. Also my wagon has those metal cargo area rails built into the floor with the sliding attachments and accessories...somehow I think that's a canadian market thing as well?

I cannot stress enough, make sure you run a Canadian Carfax. (Carfax.ca)
The USA one will have a few entries from canada, but it absolutely will not have the majority of the information you need, (like crashes/damage)
I almost bought an E63 wagon(vin WDDHH7GBOEB057974 ) last year in Florida from a dealer, they assured me that the USA Carfax covered everything from canada, right before I drove down to pick it up, I just decided to run the Canadian carfax, I found eight accidents and a vandalism report.
Absolutely saved me. Carfax and carfax.ca are very different.

see picture, the USA Carfax was 100% clean on this car.

Pretty sure that option started on US market cars in 2015, though.

Strange the wagon I got in June the USA carfax has more info than the Canadian carfax. Both clean but the USA one reported an " incident, car towed" the Canada did not. The even more strange is the hole in the skeletal frame of My hood. The hood skin repair is very good but the hole resembles a bullet hole and there are light curb rash on both passenger side wheels. I can find no info other than " incident, car towed"

On the shoulder
Definitely order both carfaxes - US and Canada - for any Canadian car in the US. I had a similar story (only not as bad) as Kenney's above. The US carfax had no issues, but a Canadian carfax showed that the car couldn't pass their emissions tests in Canada. And that's when the owner offloaded it to a US dealer....

Also, some Canadian cars have massaging seats for both front seats. That was not possible in the US. So, that's another difference to add to the list.

I have a 2016, Canadian, E63s Wagon. No issues at all. I have an aftermarket extended warranty with National Warranty Corporation. Is it a good warranty?....I don't know. In 4 years I haven't needed it. The only negative, to me, is that NHTSA doesn't acknowledge Canadian recalls and MB doesn't recognize, or feel responsible for, Canadian cars imported into the US.

Never heard of it, was it offered by your dealership when purchasing the vehicle? Looking at their BBB page they look incredibly small.

@kenneyd Incredible detail on the Canadian Car Fax, my question is can you run any car through their system to find more detail than the US Car Fax, or are the extra details on entered for the Canadian cars?

Yes... Offered by Park Place Ltd. in Bellevue WA. Sales guy said they had good reviews for them. Hope I never have to find out.
