Not good news....
But this may make older cars more in demand.

The entire world is NUTS. Yesterday (I wish I was kidding) - I was interviewing a new doctor (for employment). He first gives us a (joking?) hard time in the parking lot (met at the clinic after 5) because we pulled up in two cars, two V8's, two turbos each.....(he was in a Nissan Leaf or some such ****). Explains that "No one needs that much power"....(this is all on the way into the building mind you, we had not met before). '
Then, in discussions about his position, past and future the same idiot says "I often help body builders with gear, it is their right to do what they want for their own performance, should not be up to the Government". This guy, supposedly a healthcare professional wants to give a speech about our not caring for the environment, and just a bit later admit to selling and "teaching" how to safely use drugs because it is none of the Govt business??????? This is seriously what our schools of higher education is putting out!! (Well, he is from PA......)
I dont get the world, we NEED Govt. Control (on cars, speed limits and on on and on)....we DONT need Govt. Control on illegal drugs....
No, he is not getting a job, not with us.

Well, after watching the entire video, it seems there are four options for implementing speed controls: audible alarm, steering wheel vibration, gas pedal pulsation, and an actual governor. One can already set an audible warning when exceeding a set speed, and new Mercedes can already read speed limit signs. Still, I don't want some bureaucrat telling me to keep to the speed limit. I don't race or normally drive over the speed limit, but occasionally I may need to pass a car or something. Looks like I'm not buying anything beyond what I have now if I can help it.

I find the speed limit sign reading technology half-baked (maybe even less). Many municipalities post signs at their boundaries stating "Speed Limit 25 MPH Unless Otherwise Posted". These signs are posted in 45 MPH speed zones. Both my cars immediately recognize 25 MPH as the speed limit and tell me I'm speeding when I'm doing 45 MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone. School zones are posted "15 MPH When Signal is Flashing". Same result -- I'm warned I'm speeding in a school zone on Sunday morning. And they don't recognize construction zone speed limit signs because they're the wrong shape and/or color.
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of self-driving technology -- it's all been carefully thought out and designed.

Not their job - period. The police have NO OBLIGATION to protect you. Period. The Govt has NO OBLIGATION to protect YOU (or me). They (Fed) do have the obligation to protect the interests of the United States of America (currently they ignore that).

Everything I want to say has already been written in the Declaration of Independence: we the people are the boss, goyim were created equal to jews, and my rights come from God not the law. It took the international banksters almost a hundred years to mess that one up. But yeah, there's not much difference between the old boss and the new one now.

Excellent topic by OP, OM&HC. When the world becomes thunderdome, mad max style, how are we going get away from these warriors of the wasteland, while our cars are governed to 55?
How will the warriors of the wasteland catch us with their cars governed to 55? It will be like playing tag in the old folks home, racing our mobility scooters. Who would want to be the fastest snail, if they couldn’t escape the slowest sloth?
When I look at some of our big cities, and how they have turned into modern day desolation, I see a mad max future being a real possibility.
About your fellow doctor friend. It never ceases to amaze me how very intelligent people, like doctors, are susceptible to warped thinking. A very good friend of our family is married to an elementary school principal. He is a closet socialist. He chides his hard working and successful father in law, accusing him that he shouldn’t be allowed to make so much money. He doesn’t see the absurd hypocrisy of such a world view. Yet the guy isn’t stupid, he has a PHD. Talk about cognitive dissonance.

This thread is hilarious. Starts off about vehicles being speed limited (a lot of them already are, ya muppets), and they are easily defeatable, making this whole "THE WORLD IS ENDING" whining even funnier.
Bunch of boomers crying about the government and pushing fear-mongering.

Ford is trying to patent a way for its cars to report speeding drivers to the police.
A patent application from the automaker titled "Systems and Methods for Detecting Speeding Violations" was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Jul. 18 2024, and was originally filed by Ford Jan. 12, 2023.
In the application, Ford discusses using cars to monitor each other's speeds. If one car detects that a nearby vehicle is being driven above the posted limit, it could use onboard cameras to photograph that vehicle. A report containing both speed data and images of the targeted vehicle could then be sent directly to a police car or roadside monitoring units via an Internet connection, according to Ford.

Since, in our current justice system, you have the right to face your accuser, how long will it take for new Ford buyers to switch to a competition's non-communist car company? The description isn't about Ford vehicles self-reporting, but rather snitching on other drivers. I can see some very negative consequences to this.
EDIT: Reading the actual article, is Ford hinting that the patent could be shelved to prevent the technology from ever being implemented?

What brainiac came up with that idea? Probably the same buffoon that thought it was a good idea to insult Bud Light customers by having a guy/girl as a spokesperson.
