Exclamation E63 W212 keeps blowing fan fuse and goes in limp mode

Hello guys,

I have a 2011 Mercedes E63 AMG with the 5.5L V8 and around 150.000km on the clock and I am having some issues with the fan fuse constantly blowing and the car goes into safe mode.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I recently removed the catalytic converters and installed de-cat pipes that go from the front to the center. Did not have issues for several days, and suddenly after a few hot revs and accelerations the car showed the temperature sign and the temp went up to 100 degree Celsius and car went into safe mode. I checked and the fan 15AMP fuse was blown so I replaced it and everything cleared. After a while it started blowing it up again and again sometimes when you press the car harder and sometimes even on normal drives (I switch the screen to AMG mode and coolant temperature is at around 92-94 degrees celsius). Went to an electrician "specialist" for Mercedes and they told me I need to replace the fan, apparently when it needs to start spinning faster (go into 2nd gear or something) it makes a short circuit and blows the fuse. I went and purchased a brand new FAN, installed it and still having the same issues. Anyone with a similar experience or that knows where I should look into next please, thank you in advance

Your 150kKM fan kept blowing its fuse so you went agead and replaced it and the circuit still keeps eating fuses.

You did well because everyone would have guessed the old dry bearings would be bad and using higher current.

The part that's puzzling me is the 15A fuse... the engine radiator fan is known to be A ONE HUNDRED AMP FAN. So there's something odd right there.

90' something temps is perfectly fine as well.

15A could well be a CABIN BLOWER perhaps. These sleeve fans are built extremely tight without lubricant to be popular failures.

The dashboard warning maybe a genuine high temp with your new catless pipes.

We should also point that IC-Displayed TEMPS are useless fakes... use a OBD scanner to read ECU datastream for true sensor data.

You mentioned "a few hot revs..."
Some of these engines are known to store extreme piston heat that can only released above 3500Rpm - So when "driving easy afterwards to cool down" actually overheats the engine with extreme heat already stored.

You can use a bidirectional OBD scanner to exercise your smart fan from the comfort of your driver seat.

In addition there's an easy way to cut corners by requesting MB expert @BenzNinja to troubleshoot your issue remotely.

Thanks for the assistance guys. I have the car at a different shop at the moment and they will be looking into the prefuse box where the bigger AMP fuse is stored to check if that is what's wrong... As for the 15AMP fuse, the box diagram shows that is the one for the fan (Location 22) , and I tested it out with cold engine, with the fuse removed and the A/C turned on, the fan would not spin at all.

NEW UPDATE : So now the car still blows the fuse and instead of the temp going up and getting the high temperature message, I get the message that the oil level can not be measured and the check engine appears but it doesn't state anything else on the diagnostics other than the same codes it was throwing before. After the fuse is changed, and the codes cleared everything is okay and when it blows again the same thing happens... Temperature is not raising at this time...

I had something very similar on one of my other cars. Turned out in that instance it was a rear SAM causing issues the same as yours (fan and other things).

Took it to another diagnostics guy, we tested a few things and in the end it turned out to be the O2 sensors (on the catalytic converter, now on the de-cat pipes). Since the pipes are now empty, it generates more heat and the sensors read too much heat and in turn blow the fuse to protect the engine. Disconnected the sensors, check engine is on but no loss of power and no more blown fuses. Was told once I re-install the old pipes back there will be no issues, but I will keep it like this for some time, the check engine does bother me but the sound overcomes that feeling. Thanks for all the help and assistance guys
