The consensus is snake oil. It may spiff up the tops of Your pistons but little else. Hundreds of Youtube vids show questionable results at best.

Try it and see if you notice anything. I never used it.

I do use techron once in awhile. Napa auto parts has it on sale alot $12.99 for a 32oz bottle. I dont usually get top tier gas so I figure the Techron may help clean things in the fuel system.

I use Seafoam in all my small engine equipment, mix it in with the gas container and the gas seems to stay good. I never have any fuel related issues. Two years ago i was at Lowes and they had two craftsman pressure washers being sold "for parts only" for $25 each, they were brand new looking and customer returns. Service desk said they wont run. I bought them both and noticed the gas was very stale. Drained and cleaned the gas tanks and pulled and cleaned the carbs. They both started right up and ran great. Sold one and kept the other. I hardly use the thing and leave it full of the gas with seafoam, always starts right up and had the same gas for over a year. Seafoam does work, I feel. For small engines and gas sitting in plastic containers.

If you are asking about fuel stabilizers in general, they definitely work.
I used to winterize my boat by fogging the carbs, with the engine running at idle, until it bogged down. Then I made sure the gas tank was full to minimize space for condensation. Then I added the proper amount of stabilizer. I removed the battery and kept it off the ground, on a trickle charger. The following spring when it was time to put the boat in the water, it would start right up, after a relatively short crank.

I like to use Techron occasionally but in research, the redline is the highest pea formula and is supposed to work very well, and perhaps even better.

You may find this interesting. The posting is 15 years old now, so much has probably changed with regards to port injection and direct injection, but still some good information.

In the past, I’ve used Liquimoly fuel injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner. And after seeing the redline contains more pea and usage method being different, I was inclined to test it myself.

snak oil? I doubt it.

I picked up a few bottles of the Techron since it was on sale at Napa. They didnt have the 32oz in stock for $12.99 so I picked up the smaller 12oz for $5.49 each. Since last month when I picked my car up from the MB dealer the MPG has not gone above 22mpg, when its usually between 23-27mpg. Also at stop lights there was a slight vibration, enough to feel my pant legs vibrating against my legs. Happy to report this weekend it has gone up to 27mpg and the idle is now smooth.

Could just be coincidence. I did have work done to the exhaust manifold and the cat was removed and O2 sensors unplugged. Also I had to re-set the clock and the date so im sure they disconnected the battery for awhile. When I picked up the car the MPG was saying something really low in the single digits.

Red line is definitely effective, as is ANY additive that contains PEA, but Red-line contains a higher concentration of PEA. Toptier fuels by definition contain PEA, it was discussed on this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...hlight=toptier
Attached is a report that details the effectiveness of PEA in Toptier gasoline.

Why am I connecting PEA to diesel engines? I must be thinking about this wrong. I thought PEA was a performance enhancing additive the was urea based, and helped keep diesel exhaust cleaner. Where am I going wrong here?

One thing that I guess you can say justifies using Techron is that in my Operators Manual it mentions the use of fuel additives being ok. I forget where I saw it but I believe Techron is MB approved.

One thing i kept seeing online is that Techron no longer had that PEA in it. I was happy to peel back the label on the bottle and see it listed.

I typically fill up at a Gulf station near me. I kept seeing people say Gulf isnt Top Tier so it isnt the best. Though when I look it up they mention Gulf using BASF additives. Doesnt BASF make the mercedes branded fuek additive?

Here is the link to finding a Top Tier Gas Station in your area. I think Tasos has us all scared seeing the coated valves and burnt piston/cylinder walls....

I go to that Gulf because its convenient on the way out of town. Theres a Mobil ill go to if im on the way home and need gas. There is a Sunoco right before the highway that has outrageous prices, well over $1/gallon more than everyone.

I would love to find a gas station that has ethanol free more so for my small engine equipment. There are none in new England that I can find. I did find one Sunoco listed but when i went they just had it in containers.

Make sure whatever you use, it is safe for Cats (if running them) and is recommended by MB as indicated above to be safe.
