This guy makes it look so simple...and I suppose when you have the motor out life is much easier. I wonder what the price tag on that build/repair was for the owner. I always assumed it prudent to make sure and fully remove that foil completely and not simply poke through it and leave it...I guess not everyone feels the same?

Cool video. Thanks for sharing. Interesting to hear his take on the oil pump solenoid (@ 11:15), especially the use of a resistor to block the fault code.

He's answered me once before but I asked what he did for a resleeve. He mentioned it was needed, showed a result but I was not familiar with the liner and he did not give details. Maybe we will hear there is a less expensive option out there.

Ruan does a good job and has really become a great presenter.

Would have been great if he'd mention the color codes or # for a resistor implementation.

Yeah, so pesky having to do our own research. As for the resister....the majority of us (everyone I know of) uses a dummy solenoid as mentioned over and again in the thread.

Ask on the video. He does not have a ton of commenters so may answer.

I am three of the views on that video. Watching that is kind of like watching p*** trying to get new ideas for how to get crazy with things.

If you have not watched his other projects it's worth the time over many other channels. His project organization and communication makes it easier to digest for the standard viewer. I like that he is creative enough to source all sorts of parts and services that are seemingly pretty available to him in his part of the world.

Engine Rebuild Video

Ruan uses MOTUL PAO to soak his customer parts... LOL
Motul PAO + Pistons rings upgrade
Motul PAO + Rings upgrade

This engine was purposely starved of oil when two oil bottle seals were dropped in the engine during service. The pump pick-up port limited engine oiling and dry pump got wasted.
Hence this rebuild!

I understand Ruan elected to use new genuine MB bearings with stock clearance colors.
Meaning these parts are all good to him

What's interesting is Ruan recognizes the stock low tension rings need upgrade to increase output. The lossy pistons seal... leak!
Stock rings guarantee what I've been describing... unbalanced contributions. The unpredictable timings are punishing bearings under load.

Ruan preps and installs his parts with confidence knowing the engine output won't fold the tranny.

> Oil pressure + Rings seal + PAO:
The bottom line is Ruan does not drink "gas savings" coolaid to gain performance.

When I told my mechanic that....well, he about had a nervous break down saying "you are already there, upgrade the freaking connecting rods!"

well, I’m sure you see I remain apolitical on the forums…

he doesn’t do everything the way that everybody else might do it, but that is part of the art in mechanics.

I also think this is ultimately limited to his customers budget. I would absolutely do it while I am in there.

Rings

I seem to recall discussion on a rebuild thread or video about ring replacement selection being related to the sleeve wall material being different from the coated factory walls…? Need to match ring outer edge (material, profile, coating?) to wall surface type…Anyone else recall similar?
