This car is wet clutch 9 gears guys.

As for race start i read it will activate by just depressing brake fully and then press gas and vroom. No buttons or modes needed to activate it ( still need to confirm this though)

I keep seeing this for the rear end

+1. Yup!

Some sites have mistakenly labeled the new transmission as dual-clutch. I highly doubt about that.

Dude, look at the new exhaust tip!!! WTF are those!!! If I see it correctly, each exhaust now has the a partially recessed double center partition. Compared to the midcycle W212 E63 refresh, this set of exhaust tips is now truly a faux dual tips. If you darken the recessed partitions, those tips will look now look no different than that on a E350 with sports package. Man, I know those tips have been nothing but cosmetic pieces since the midcycle refresh. I know not everyone is a sucker for real dual tips exhaust like me...but come on...that's a disgrace!

It's going to be really hard for this to grow on me. I'm already looking forward to seeing the W214...

Tron is what gives the car twin scroll....tron or go home!

But on a more serious note, for sure you will be able to change the colors as this is derived from the S, and previous model could do it so, even though you will murder the tron in the car...I may forgive you

just look at that rev gauge (cross hair)...am telling you there is a rocket launcher button hidden some where!, why else do we get a big *** screen, secretly showing you the rockets poping out of the engine bay

2014 E63
Whats with the newer interior carbon fiber on the mercedes cars? Its gotten so light and reflective. I noticed sitting in a new C63 how greyed out it was. In my old 2012 C63, I had carbon fiber interior option and it was much darker and sporty looking.

Peter - could not agree more!

The 2017 is pretty amazing, but not that enamored with the new 2017 exterior or interior. I had reservations about pulling the trigger on my 2015 E63 or waiting for the 2017 and VERY happy to have my 2015/W212 E63S after seeing the 2017 and reading about its capabilities.

The 2014-2016 (to me) looks amazing and distinct (sorry, the 2017 looks like a C-class in the rear... ) and its reassuring knowing the M157 engine is so prevalent in many AMG models (ex: E63, CLS63 Coupe, S63 Coupe, GLE 63S Coupe, GLE 63 SUV, GLS 63, G63, S63 Cabriolet, SL63 Roadster) which means aftermarket firms or independent shops will continue focusing on developing add on's for this engine since there is a huge user base and market for it...

It will. I had a 17' loaner E300 recently, and it has the whole color palette available. You choose the color like you do on a computer display, by moving a slider to the exact color you want.

The AMG site is populated with the press release. They also added the new E Class family members to the Sound Room:

The other thing notable from the AMG site is the naming that they are using:

"4MATIC+" to distinguish the "fully variable torque distribution"

well, back to laggy and jerky start and stops lol

my 2014 is a very nice daily driver since I added sprintbooster and learned to drive the car and anticipate the need for the 1/2 second or so of mct clutch engagement ... but every once in a while I try a quick stop and go in S mode and get the "E63 shuffle" as I have coined it

With the extra "+" added to the 4matic...The name of this car sure is getting longer and longer.

Ahh, I see the picture from post #63 that the latest W212 E63 has also been fitted with the partition inside the single lumen exhaust "decorative piece" to create the faux dual tips.

i saw in press release :

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT nine-speed sports transmission is specially tuned to requirements in the new E 63 4MATIC+ and E 63 S 4MATIC+. This involved re-engineering hardware and software alike.
A special software development enables extremely short shift times, fast multiple downshifts and the double-clutching function, making for a highly emotive gearshifting experience.

so hopefully the re-engineered hardware and software addresses the laggy start from standstill

There are 64 ambient light colour choices in the w213 so you're not exactly spoilt for choice

curious what "permanent all wheel drive" and "variable torque distribution" mean... is drift mode truly 100% rwd?

"Permanent all wheel drive" does seem contradictory. Here is some more info from the AMG site:

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ variable all-wheel drive

Both E 63 models are exclusively available with the innovative AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This newly engineered, intelligent system brings together the advantages of various drive configurations. Torque distribution on the front and rear axles, which is fully variable for the first time, ensures optimum traction right up to the physical limit. The driver is also able to rely on high driving stability and handling safety under all conditions, whether the roadway be dry, wet or snow-covered. The transition from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive and back again is seamless, because intelligent control is integrated into the vehicle system architecture as a whole.

An electromechanically controlled coupling connects the permanently driven rear axle variably to the front axle. The best possible torque distribution is calculated continuously according to the driving conditions and driver's input. The performance saloon can thus be driven in a continuously variable way from traction-oriented all-wheel drive to purely rear-wheel drive. Transitions are seamless and based on an elaborate matrix. In addition to traction and lateral dynamics, the all-wheel drive system also improves the longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration.

It is still possible to drift thanks to fully variable torque distribution. This is where drift mode, part of the standard specification for the E 63 S 4 MATIC+, comes into its own. This can be activated in the "Race" drive program using the shift paddles, provided that ESP® is deactivated and the transmission is in manual mode. When drift mode is activated, the E 63 S 4MATIC+ becomes a purely rear-wheel drive vehicle. Drift mode remains engaged until the driver deactivates it again.

Wow.. great info

this sounds most like the atessa system Nissan:Infiniti offers and drift mode will allow roll racers the best scenario (however its manual shifting so less ideal) for high speed pulls in rwd only

curious if you can launch in awd and then once full traction is established will it switch to pure rwd like the Infiniti does to give peak performance in straight line given traction doesn't again become an issue during the run....

Yeah, I think that is the million dollar question, that and how good is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT nine-speed sports transmission?
