Perosnally id rather have a great exterior with decent interior than decent exterior with great interior. So for me that's what the w212 has over the w213.

The 4matic+ is definitely another advantage of the w213.

I still would still neee to be sure that it automatically changes to RWD 100% at higher speeds. I think it's still not clear yet.

the worst thing of the w212 is that 33/67 split. Maybe to overcome higher drivetrain loss the m157 MIGHT have more tuning potential. We won't know about this for a while.

one thing in that article that i have not seen before is claimed weight of around 4100 lbs... if that is true then this e63 is significantly lighter than the current generation

If it's only 4100 lbs vs current gen at 4400-4500 it will be way faster and won't need as much torque as the 5.5 to kill the w212.

We need confirmation on the weight for w213

Personally, I like much better how the exhausts tips and their surrounding look on the current C63/S65. I am just never in the mood for having the exhaust tips all surrounded.

I see some resemblance between the coupe and wagon's rear ends. Maybe go that route if you prefer the look.

The non-S version uses those tips (https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...ml#post6958563)... I agree, they look better.

Here are the specs from the AMG site:

The 1,880*/1,955 kg ** translates to 4145/4310 lbs.

nice! If they hit their targets there then that's a big weight reduction from current model! About 300lbs lighter ! I am liking this new model more and more

Wait a minute, so the "S" now becomes electronically limited at 250km/hr?! And you will need the "AMG Driver's package" to go up to 300km/h?! So what extras are there with this "Driver's package?" Are there going to be some kind of additional badges on the car, ie S+. Is this how it's going to be?...Limit something on purpose just so more $$$ can be levied to delimit something? I think that's getting a little ridiculous. What's next?...An S++ package with speed up to 350km/h? I can see how the entire AMG has already been overrun by bean counters than anything else.

They finally moved the E43 off of the Feature Vehicles page (on MBUSA site) and added the E63 / E63 S: https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/futur...GALLERY-ID|0|0

Interesting how the 186 mph is stated:
  • 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds; governed top speed of 186 mph (E63 S 4MATIC+)**
**Stated horsepower, torque and acceleration rates are estimated based on manufacturer's testing and track results and may vary depending on environmental and road surface conditions, driving style, elevation and vehicle load.

As if it is not part of any type of driver's package.

The side view sure looks like it's jacked up like an all-terrain version or something.

Maybe MB just need to get all infos together and make things consistent. Nevertheless, I still don't like the concept of having a regular and a S version. I like how GM does it with the CTS-V, which GM states is the pinnacle for CTS line and the only available options are pretty much cosmetic items. It should be that way as well for AMG, Bimmer M, Audi S/RS, etc--That's right, one top of the line version only!

And there is the rumor for starting MSRP of $130K. That's gotta be a mistake unless the quality and reliability is on par with Pcars. I'm sure many potential owners will jump ship for other offerings if that MSRP is true.

By the way, one recent article also states that W213 E63 will now have "artificial noise pumped into the cabin electronically." There you go, that answers the question some mentioned that exhaust sound appeared louder inside the W213 when compared to the W212 E63. So AMG has finally gone the route of Bimmer M to electronically compensate for the smaller displacement and forced induction, despite previous refusal to do so. Yes, more drain and stress, along with the front airmatic, on the battery. Maybe the W213 E63 will now also need additional batteries...just great.

Also what's up with this ever increasing wheel diameter of now up to 20"?! It might have already gone way past the point of diminishing return in terms of performance. I can just see in the future when models come all ghetto looking with 32" wheels.

I would be VERY surprised if they are pumping in sound for the exhaust. I would guess its rather they are pumping in the noise cancellation , that makes the interior very quiet (largely road noise drone), and thus you hear the exhaust more.

Harmon already makes such a system. http://www.halosonic.co.uk/
Bose has one too.

it does amplify the engine sounds via sound system, getting louder as you go up in drive modes... comfort mode pump in no noise.. they start pumping in the noise at sport setting and gets louder and louder in s+ and race modes... probably to give people more of a "wow changing the settings turns the car into an animal!" sensation to impress all their golf buddies

This car is awesome... I only plan to switch from my MY14 when I can buy this in the overseas delivery... spend a couple weeks in Europe with the family testing out the new uber-wagon!

Matte grey, carbon/ceramic brakes and loaded to the ****.

This article is the best that I have seen regarding driving specifics... http://www.motortrend.com/cars/merce...-drive-review/

  • "Through corners where traction was needed, the torque split was 50/50. By the end of the front straight, 100 percent of the power was being fed to the rear wheels. The front wheels never get more than 50 percent of the power."
  • "Launch control is Porsche-simple: Push the brake pedal to the floor in Sport, Sport+, or Race modes, bury the throttle, and release the brake."
  • "AMG says that the new car weighs about the same (I’d guess another 100 or so pounds heavier), but the seat of my pants is telling me that the extra power, grip, pop from the new transmission, and smart AWD system will allow the new car to shatter the old E63’s records."
  • "For the past year, I’ve been running around Los Angeles in a Dodge Hellcat: 707 horsepower, 650 lb-ft of torque, 4,530 pounds, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Funnily enough, it’s based on an old E-Class, the W210, which is one of the few good results of the ill-conceived DaimlerChrysler merger of equals. The E63 feels as if it could snap the Hellcat in half."

AMG recently announced that the US will only get the S version.
I would guess most will be pretty loaded and north of $130k.

Good thing it will depreciate 30% the first year

I have seen articles that say only the S is coming to the U.S. and other articles that say both are coming to the U.S..

I think at this point we have to go with the MBUSA information... "The all-new 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 4MATIC+ and E63 S 4MATIC+ will arrive in the US in the summer of 2017." Until we get an order guide that disputes the site.

Cars with this much power really really do need AWD to get all the power down.

I believe I heard in one of the many review videos on youtube that the 186 mph limit is a function of tyres.

If I bump into the video again I'll post

EDIT:

"Top speed, like all AMG models, is limited to 155mph, although the Driver’s Package option, which also gets the buyer a day of high-speed driver training, bumps it up to a limited 186mph."

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/mercedes-amg/e-63

"This is the fastest AMG ever built and if you hand over an additional £3,300, they'll give you a bit of driving instruction before turning the wick up to 186mph. That's still limited, though; it's the tyres they're worried about if you actually found a road straight enough to max this thing out."
