Debating on whether to do a Clear Bra

Thinking about a 3m clear bra when I get my new AMG. In really looking at the nose of the car though there is not a heck of lot of painted area, there is mostly intake area and grill area. Plus with the shape of the hood if the clear bra ran only 12 inches or so into the hood the seam may be more noticeable than it was with the clear bra I had on my old 212. On my 212 after 4.5 years the clear bra was bubbling around curved areas, there are even more curved areas on the 213 so this too worries me. I may just take my chances and go without it, I'm sure the dealer will want $1500 or so for the install. I may even consider doing a do it myself job and just do the painted areas below the grill on either side of the top part of the bumper and the top part of the rear bumper on my wagon to try to prevent damage when loading and unloading things from the hatch. I may also do the rear view mirrors. For the limited amount of spots I'd be doing I could probably get the material for under 100 bucks and do the job in less than a couple of hours. Tempting.

Merc,

Thank you for your consideration for 3M clear bra. We have released our new 3M Pro Series film, that now comes with a 10-year nationwide warranty. So if the film were to ever bubble along the edges like you stated in your comment they will be covered for a full 10 years. We also have a 5 yr 3M paint protection service agreement that will cover the paint under the film.

Please let us know if you would like any further information or help finding a 3M certified installer in your area.

Thanks

I was told by my 3M / Ventureshield rep that they don’t yet have the digital pattern to cut the film for the 2018’s.... I’m either gonna do it when I take delivery or hold off on it all togeather... def will do rear bumper/loading area of the wagon...

If your shop does Xpel and any other ppf brands, then they can use the Xpel template.

Thanks. I see they have the specs for the sedan but not the wagon. I assume the front is the same as are the sides. Not sure tho. I assume the rear number is different...

The front is the same for both, likely up to the rear door. The rear trunk and fender are obviously different from sedan but then not sure if there are people doing the the rear at all.

When I get my car sometimes in November, I am doing the entire front. Maybe I will add rocker panel and rear fender, not sure for now.

Ditto. I intend to get the matte finish, which will make this even more challenging.

In that case, you do need it. Xpel Stealth or Suntek Ultra Matte

I have had clear bras on my last two cars and will get one installed on my next car when the time comes. I especially like how the bra protects the head lights.

This is probably what I'll end up using, but for the entire car vs a car wrap that is already matte.

to wrap the entire car, it will cost around $4500 - 5000 I would think. But of course, you will not have a nightmare taking care of the matte paint at all.

XPEL vs 3M / Ventureshield

anyone have experience w XPEL paint protection film? It seems to be twice as expensive ( or maybe I just got a great price on covering my front and rear end on my ‘14 E63S w Ventureshield ).

It’s claimed self healing properties seem too good to be true on the videos. Considering doing the complete front end, rocker panels, rear bumper and perhaps four doors on my incoming wagon... I got three quotes and they were $4,400-5,300 for the above which seems very pricey for clear film application...

that's sounds about in the ball park.

I am in Canada. For my quotes using Xpel Ultimate, the entire car wrap will be $5500 Cdn + taxes.

I did have the 3m front end and rear bumper done at the dealer, it was $1195.00 which was reasonable.

XPEL and Suntek are the best. That is what you should buy.

Xpel is the best. There is no downside to wrap except cost . Most of my cars are wrapped
