I tried for 10 minutes to get the car in workshop mode but it wouldn’t let me in.

my car is a 06/2017 build so not THAT old of a version.

These are my screens:

I tried a several times and then all over sudden got in.

From the looks of it I think August is the date for the change.

Thank you for all the information guys. Currently, on the MBUSA website, if I build an E63 AMG and select Carbon fiber trim for $2850, it doesn't say anything about removing wireless charging. However, if I go to the Performance and Safety page and select the "Carbon Fiber Engine Cover" for $1500, on that one the description says: "Genuine carbon fiber is meticulously crafted to the dash, console and doors, bringing the rich racing heritage of AMG directly to the cockpit.Deletes inductive wireless charging with NFC pairing." Does anyone know what's going on here? If I choose the carbon fiber trim but do NOT choose the carbon fiber engine cover, do I get wireless charging?

Also, they are building edition 1 cars throughout the year, correct? So do newer Edition 1 cars have these same limitations? Does any Edition 1 car have wireless charging?

I believe E634Me was able to get both Carbon Fiber Trim and Wireless Charging (although his wasn't an Ed 1).

Regarding the Cruise control automatically adjusting to the posted speed limit,
Turns out it IS working. I just used it wrong.

When you pull it back once you set the speed and you can click up to speed up or down to slow down.
If you pull it back once more it will lock the speed to the posted speed limit.
It works like a charm.

No more edition 1 cars in the US AFAIK. Perhaps can be configured at the dealer. Other countries have the edition 1 option but it's not the same as the US/Canada. CCB's for example are not part of the package. As stated previously, normally configured E63s with carbon fibre trim will have NFC, apparently at least post October builds. Exterior/engine CF bits are irrelevant...

I got the traffic signs to read now. Could have been user error...

Re. the cruise control running on speed limit signs is something I admittedly never plan to use that feature

Thank you Wolfman. I see some dealers with new Edition 1's that I would assume are relatively recent builds. I wonder if they have the same limitations, including no NFC?

You can't build an Edition 1 (At least in the US) - they are pre configured and slots made available to dealers.
I believe I read that 213 Edition 1 are slated for the US. That number seems to low.
And yes they should all have the same limitations/features

Agreed. Our car was delivered to the dealer at the end of October. AFAIK, all launch editions were held up at port for a while, so all of them, including the few standing at dealers now would have been build in the first half of 2017...

Vic - thanks for pointing me to this thread. I bought my E63S about a month ago. It was already on the lot so I'll have to dig up the build date. After finally messing with all the settings, I've come to realize I have the older software/module. For those of you who had the older version, is there a way to get upgraded? I set up an appt with the dealer for next week.

Most dealerships can just plug your VIN into their system to see whats due or what can happen. Im not expecting much here but who knows. If thats the only thing Im missing, Ill be ok. (the advanced color adjustments)

I will let you know if my car gets updated sometime this week. The dealer is requesting updates from
MBUSA and still waiting on parts for my car. I’ll know when I get it back if anything changed.

It's been too frickin cold here to bother with the car but what I can tell at the moment is that all software is up to date on our car (only the Nav needed updating which was done). The issue is that each control module has it's own version which corresponds to a particular software version. If a later build has a newer control module version, that one will feature the newer software. What I am trying to find out if the newer software can be loaded to that older module.

It would seem kind of silly if everything has to be updated on a module by module basis or if a module would need to be replaced in order to be upgraded - assuming that there aren't hardware differences between modules or car build dates that don't support the new feature.

Tesla can update their whole frik'ng car over WiFi or their in-car hot spot. Hard to believe that Mercedes, who apparently co-developed a number of things with Tesla, can't do the same - if they wanted to.

It needs a hard update from the star system... the online one will not cover this.

My car will be at the dealer for illuminated star install and softwares updates next Wednesday.

I hope that after, all menus will be the same as the last cars built.

I see an W213 E400 with the illuminated star and it convinced me to do it ! Very subtil and nice addition...not too « in your face » or « blink-blink »

I'll get back to you with the follow up on the updates and with the result of the bright star.

I just got my car back, they did a NAV and command software update and the screens are still the same as before. Seems like you can’t update them without changing out the hardware too.

Maybe they did not perform an update as I was never able to access the workshop menu to see what software version I have but the worksheet says performed Navigation map update
Performed Software update.

Had the same thing. Only the Nav needed updating.

I have a complete listing of all modules and their respective hardware & software versions from our car and am getting the same list from a late 2017 build. Then it's easy to cherry pick a module and see if we can do an update... It's paper only but I will post a pic for reference...

Not critical to have any but would love a better CarPlay functionality and really like the later vehicle data screen
