Just watched the live Mercedes presentation from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and hour or so ago where they debuted their new MBUX (Mercedes Benz User eXperience) system that's going to take the place of their existing COMAND system. Looks really slick with touchscreen, no control wheel, very advanced voice recognition, internet connectivity and over-the-air updates. I guess there's no way of knowing if it's going to be available for the 2016 E series until they release the configuator.

Such as? I didn't see anything in the presentation of the interface that I thought wouldn't be allowed here. Very interested in the reasoning behind your conclusion. Thanks.

Looks pretty cool. If in fact they remove the touchpad/wheel, the voice command setup will have to be incredible, as the touchscreens aren't in a great place to interact with while driving. Will be fun to see what does make it into the production cars.

It looks like they plan on leaving the touchpad and just removing the wheel. The way that I understood the announcement all of the MBUX features such as the touchpad without the wheel, very advanced voice control, 3D style menus and touch screens are going to be put into production as early as this summer at least on their new A series economy car.
