For those with CarPlay issues
My car went in for an unrelated issue and while discussing same with a tech I was informed that they somewhat figured out what was giving CarPlay problems to owners. There are 3 codes that need to be present in vdoc - 14u, 16u & 17u. Some cars one of these codes is missing. They figured out that uploading that missing code fixes a lot of the problems.
There was was also an update to the Comand. It added some Tracks to Track Pace.

In a nutshell
It made CarPlay useable at least. It not without its issues (delays on startup or refusal to start) but it has gone from being unusable now to at least usable.

I am disappointed in MB and the CarPlay implementation. Maybe it is Apple? If I play my iPod through the USB plug in the center arm rest, I see album cover and the playlist options. None of that with CarPlay. No WAZE from the iPhone is also a disappointment.

I’m not able to play anything from any other media sources if my phone is plugged in to CarPlay except the radio. It bans my iPod or USB drives from playing music. I don’t care much for artwork (although it’s prettty to look at vs CarPlay interface) but I do think using CarPlay gives up a ton of missing integration and it’s bordering on becoming a hassle
