265/35R20 vs 255/35R20 front tires
The diameter of a 255/35R20 tire exactly matches the 295/30R20 tire used in the rear. Why is the slightly larger tire, namely the 265/35R20 used instead. The reason that I'm asking is that I want to put the new Michelin Alpin tires on the car when the current oem pirrelli tires wear out.
The Michelin tires do not come in the 265/35R20 but do come in the 255/35R20 along with the 295/30R20. Would there be a problem using the slightly smaller tire for the front fitment?

Go to www.willtheyfit.com and plug your numbers in. A 30 aspect ratio on the 295 though will leave you with even less sidewall than the 35, be careful there.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
The car will not handle the way it's meant to. Back end will be jacked up a little bit. I just plan on going with the same michelin super sports that came on the car when I need tires. Hopefully get at least 15K miles out of these ones, I'm at 4 K miles now, might be another couple of years.

I think it has to do with the added .2" in the sidewall. That little bit will most likely provide some added protection for potholes etc..
The 255/35 is an exact match diameter wise, maybe tougher to get in Pirelli and Michelin considering they are the two sources or speed rating issue.
