Tire pressure: consensus?
Hey guys,
So I've found a few threads (including the sidebar in the post your pics thread) around front/rear tire pressure. Was there consensus? If not, I'd be interested to know your respective experience... especially in places that get into the 30s. The doorjamb shows something like 51 49 which is akin to Fred Flintstone wheels. I've set it to 36 rear, 40 front right now.
Thoughts?
PS: the car came with MPS4S all around. While I know it's not ideal nor recommended, I've no intention of switching them out since we're entering the warmer season so I'm looking to see anyone else is doing the same and, if so, what they've found works.
Thanks.

19" winter setup now - 38 all around. (orig. started out 38 front / 40 rear. Did not like the harshness of the ride, a bit bouncy)
summer - not yet put on. may try with 36 all around to start out and go from there.

car came with 45 all around. I dropped to 41 2 weeks later and its how i ride now. I may try to go 5 more down. I think it'also depends where you live and quality of your roads surface.

You gotta be careful not to go too low if you live in a area where there are bumpy roads, could bend a rim, although I guess less likely if you have the forged rims, at least I hope thats the case. Up North I bent a few rims on my old 212 and damaged some tires from pot holes. Plus definitely gotta keep the pressure up over 40 if you do real high speeds.

still under 1000 miles so going slow through break in ...plus roads are pretty good where I live (SouthEast) so will try and find best setting. BTW, 45psi didn't bother me with firm ride.

Real good looking Wagon, makes me think I shoulda gone with the Black wheels and the night package, although I guess I'm never satisfied, lol Looks like you've got the forged wheels so you should be ok as far as not experiencing any bent rims. Darn though I'm liking those black wheels. Here's my car with the Silver forged wheels.

Thanks, we all never satisfied and probably it's a reason we keep buying expensive cars! Yes, they are black forged wheels, night package and all available carbon . I found this car because couldnt wait for my order but I didn't get rear climate control and fragnance package I wanted !!! As you said we never satisfied!

So the gas cap states 41/33 with light loads (not fully laden) for speeds under 155 so I use that but then reduce the fronts further to 38. So I run 38/33.

I've got it setup as 42 / 38 for now and the pressure barely ticks up after driving for a while--another indicator that it's freakin cold.
Thanks for the input, guys!

My 2cents..
Last week up here in pothole central (Toronto) I hit a small crater and destroyed my front passenger tire. For what it’s worth my pressures were about 36 all the way around. My wheel was undamaged (thankfully) just the tire sidewalk blew out. New tire and pressure is now set to 41 front 38 rear and its livable.

Yeah.
It’s arguably the worst it’s ever been up here and driving is like playing a game. You constantly have to keep your eyes open. That one got me because it came up out of nowhere while I was making a left so I was looking a bit further ahead so as to not hit pedestrians lol... I can probably put up the dash cam video if you want it’s pretty entertaining

Pressure too low and you get bent rims. Pressure too high and you pick up all the debris and get flat tires. It's a situation of picking your poison, I guess.

Yes, it seems like around 38-40 is the sweet spot. In Rhode Island I'm nervous to go too much under 40 in even the rears because it is pothole city there and you bend a rim and fix it, it's never the same again and will bend more easily the next time.

Just got over break in period with my new ride. It came with 20” MPS4S and were set at 39 front and 37.5 rear cold. The road condition here is not really ideal so I felt a bit too bumpy after a week of driving. Now I lowered tire pressure a bit to 34.5 front and 32.5 rear cold. It feels much better now. The first try of race start took place this afternoon near IBM research lab at south San Jose. It took 3.18 to 60 mph and 11.16 to quarter mile. Tire pressure raised to 40 front and 38 rear.
I thought this is at the bottom of tire pressure spec and was a bit surprised to get a message reminding me to adjust tire pressure this morning. I kind of enjoy better with daily ride quality with lower setting. Knowing this may wear out tire sooner but rather be more comfortable so will keep it this way.........:-)

The data plate on the fuel filler door says 41 front/33 rear for lightly loaded car traveling up to ~150 mph, and higher pressure if driving up to 186 mph.
Your pressures are set considerably lower than recommended. Don’t think I’d want to go much lower than 38 on the fronts given the low profile of the tire.
