Nice! Congrats! Safe journey and hopefully this VPC hold mess is sorted sooner than later.

Did anybody think that it might have something to do with the current Political Climate? Our Gov does not seem crazy about accepting imported cars and other things at this point in time, in fact Tariffs on German cars could be a reality soon. It was just announced tariffs on 200 billion more of Chinese Goods. Just some food for thought. This happened last Summer at the EPA level, this time it's customs, seems like a strange coincidence.

I couldnt agree with you more. Definitely seems coincidental and I wonder wether this hold is just a ply to buy time to see what happens with the tariffs

if that is the case, wouldn’t it make more sense to try and move as many units as they possibly could now before the tariffs? Else risk not being able to move those units for having to give a partial discount to offset some of the tax increases that a consumer has to pay?

If that had been the case, it would have affected all imported cars, or at least all German ones, not just MB...

Mercedes could make a lot more money on the ones sitting once the Tariffs kick in. Raise the price on the cars because of the Tariffs across the board but have as many cars produced but not sold Cha Ching. I'm sure that would really piss off a lot of people waiting though and they might back out of the deal if the price of the car were to go up 20 percent.

Right, although I personally very much doubt that this is what is going on... The more likely causes are that they either tend to start the certification process late, or they want to wait for existing inventories to clear, or both.

bobblehead 07-31-2018 07:45 PM

In Canada, there are less than 75 units left to clear (new and demo) for MY2018. That may take 3 months or more to clear if there are no factory credit given. I would not surprised if the MY 2019 would not be released until late Sep to mid October.

My S6 came over on the Sirius Highway in 2016. She’s a fine vessel.

That is more than likely the case I guess in that they are wanting to clear out all the remaining 2018 in inventory. Auto Trader shows 58 New AMG's in the USA as of now, I'm sure there are more than that, probably at least 100 to 150.

Maybe if the stopped the allocation crap and giving some dealers 5+ cars while I had to wait 2 months for my dealer to get a book’s they wouldn’t be sitting out there. Ordered my car Feb 5th.

My dealer finally convinced the VPC to release the car with a painted rear spoiler, and to ship me the CF spoiler for dealer install when they are back in supply.

I have a contact at Daimler corporate (non automobile unit), major supply chain issues right now and they just sent a communication temporarily suspending the employee lease program.

Not to mention they were sending out memos at the end of last year telling dealers to expect delays due to quality checks and supply shortages into May...and that was in November. They were already expecting delays to last 6+ months. The screens and ceramic brakes have been on constant short supply.

This was posted in the S class Forum but gives us a little light on the delays with the 2019’s

August 01, 2018 01:30 PM Eastern Daylight TimeATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE (https://www.businesswire.com/))--Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported July sales of 20,034 Mercedes-Benz models, a decrease of 22.7% from July 2017. Mercedes-Benz Vans reported July sales of 2,921 units (up 5.9%) and smart reported 103 units, bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 23,058 vehicles for the month. On a year-to-date basis, sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles totaled 178,882, with an additional 19,831 units for Vans and 753 vehicles for smart, bringing the sales volume to 199,466, a decrease of 4.4% from last year.

“July sales were impacted by a number of factors, resulting in a temporary dealer inventory shortfall relating to our changeover to model year 2019,” said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. “We also experienced a mainframe outage which affected our dealers’ ability to conduct business during the busiest week of the month. The IT recovery is nearing completion, and we are working closely with our customers and dealers to help alleviate any inconvenience resulting from the model year 2019 delays. While we expect to replenish our inventory levels in the fall, these developments will likely have a negative impact on sales in the coming months.”

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in July included the GLE, GLC and C-Class model lines. The GLE took the lead at 4,447, followed closely by GLC sales of 4,446. The C-Class rounded out the top three with 3,841 units sold.

July sales of Mercedes-AMG high-performance totaled 2,008 units, with 17,328 vehicles sold year-to-date.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 10,508 vehicles in July, an increase of 21.4% when compared to the same month last year (8,654). On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 72,629 vehicles, an increase of 5.5% over 2017 (68,848).

Not sure that really explains any delay. All it says is that there was an inventory shortfall (probably 2018s) due to the crossover to 2019. The mainframe issue only seem to last 3-4 days so don't think that's a factor in any 2019 delay.

Also, at this point, I don't think there IS a 2019 delay (yet, knock on wood). From what I understand, Merc doesn't usually release 2019s until sometime in Aug / Sept / Oct. It's only Aug 2 so you wouldn't really expect it by now anyway.

If anything, given this crappy sales month, I'd think they'd be incentivized to release the MY2019s as soon as possible to get some sales on the books. My guess is sometime in August or else Aug. is going to look terrible.

Alternatively, they could start to offer some hefty discounts on 2018s to move them and get some cars sold, and then release 2019s in Sept. But if they're saying there's an inventory shortfall I'm not sure how many 2018s there even are to move.

Update

Still D10 - VPC RCVD as of today. My SA's MB rep did verify that the hold vehicles are warehoused indoors at the VPC.

It depends on the VPC... Indoors in CA, outdoors in MD, etc.

Looking at the VPC in Brunswick on google maps, there's one large building and LOTS of cars outdoors. Most of them look to be covered with that white plastic paint protection. I suspect that a lot of these are outgoing vehicles heading to ROW markets from the Alabama factory.

It's at 101 Jointer Creek Rd in Brunswick, if anyone wants to have a look. BMW has a facility across the street.

Yeah there’s a LR/Jaguar facility there too. I’ve been planning a heist. Just need about 20 truck drivers and loaders. :zoom: :rolf:

We’re probably gonna need some guys that already got their cars. 4-5 “Bandits” to keep the “Smokey’s” occupied.
