Common pricing practice for AMG models???

This question is posed to those who have priced/purchased AMG vs non-AMG models. Is it a common practice of MB to effective price gouge when it comes to pricing options/packages in AMG models when compared to the very same items in non-AMG models? Specifically, I've been building an E53 coupe (I know this isn't the proper forum, but since the admins refuse to create a dedicated A/C238 forum …), and note the cost for the Multicontour seats in the 450 model is $950 (no increase over last years 400 model) … however, for the very same seats in the E53 model, the effective price is $4310!, to which you also have to add $1050 for the Warmth and Comfort Package. While the seat itself is a stand-alone option in the non-AMG model, to obtain this item in the AMG model forces you to additionally purchase 1) leather seats (~$3k), in addition to 2) a $370 mark-up for the seat itself, plus the 3) aforementioned heated steering wheel/armrest premium. The same pricing philosophy effectively applies to the heated and ventilated seat option … both shown as a $450 item, but in the E53 it requires the same leather upgrade. I would have thought the emphasis on the AMG model was more towards the performance side of the spectrum, but it seems - at least based on as assessment of the initial information/pricing available - you are being forced to effectively build with what might appear to be a P3 optioned luxo cruiser . As there are more examples over the years of AMG variants in the W series of MB sedans, is it your experience/observations that this is the norm or a first-year model run phenomenon which usually gets addressed in subsequent model years? I thought AMG had more to do with one man, one engine … less to do with heated steering wheels and armrests. Appreciate input.

The E53 isn’t a real AMG model so they obviously price gouge all models.

Too many
have had both AMG and non AMG models , but mostly owned AMG cars and can't remember details reference package pricing between amg vs non amg
but from a financial perspective , MB have lower residual and higher MF on AMG cars , so that by itself is gauging
you might understand the lower residual that these cars lose more value !! as they are more expensive in general , but why the higher MF !!
