2019 E63S AMG Steering Wheel?

2019 E63S AMG Steering Wheel?
Early versions of the DOG meantioned inclusion of the “new” AMG Performance Steering Wheel. But the early DOGs didn’t include any images of the actual steeering wheel...not sure if the most current ones do?
Most believed at the time that it would be similar to the one on the S63, etc.
However, the facelifted C63S variants have been recently reviewed and I’ve seen videos of both the sedan and the coupe and both have the steering wheel from the upcoming AMG GT 63S 4-door with the drive mode selector and the programmable buttons...check out the 2:45 mark and 6:00 mark of the following video as an example. Any chance the 2019 E63S also gets this?

Yeah—would be great.
Any insiders know if it is included for the 2019 E63S models?
I noticed from the facelifted C63 and C63S introduction earlier in the summer that the S models seemed to have it and the non-S did not. Not sure if just a coincidence.

We will have to wait and see, but the E63 AMG S will likely get the new C63 AMG S steering wheel, which might be different than the base 63 and 53 variants. But one thing is for sure, it will definitely look like the picture below (E53 Sedan):

Yep—that’s an “at least” scenario. Here’s to hoping the one with the additional controls makes it to the E63S.

Agree - would be awesome - works well in the few 991.2 911's I've driven with same type of controls on the steering wheel. AND the E63 needs it to rival the M5's M buttons.

The E63 S gets the new AMG style wheel without the option of the additional controls. A representative from Mercedes in Germany said the new C class and GT Coupe run a newer version of NTG/COMAND where this supported. The facelift E63 S and E 53 will likely have it available as options.

The additional controls on the steering wheel are called "AMG Drive Unit" with option Code U88. The new AMG performance steering wheel has option codes L6J, L6K, and L6L - apparently you can option these wheels with the U88 for the new C class and GT Coupes only. Someone with the 2019 C63 DOG and GT Coupe DOG can confirm this. The U88 option is not included in the 2019 E DOG - but likely will be a future option as stated by @jm_case above.

off topic—when is the facelift E coming? MY2020 or MY2021?

When I ordered my 2019 only options were the alcantara or the perforated leather. It is the new wheel but doesn't have the extra controls. I think it looks nicer but not a big deal really. And I got the perforated leather I don't like alcantara anywhere really.

Definitely thinking of the retrofit but my concern is distronic cruise controls are on the steering wheel, somehow need to figure out how to delete old distronic arm and do the coding.
If anybody provide me vin number for a order with this steering wheel for part numbers i’m very appreciated!
no one ordered My19 in Turkey right now and i’m not expecting to happen soon because there is only six W213 E63s entire country

MBUSA rep on private lounge said the 2019 wheel isn’t compatible with the wiring harness and bus controls of the 2018. So even if you could find a way to wire it the system wouldn’t know what to do with it.

no, the MY19 will not bring the new controls on the steering wheel. it has been rolled out on the A class, on the C63 facelift and S63 but not for E class for now. the new controls are not of good quality as far the reviews tell. seems like MB rushed to make the thing look more what has been done for years in BMW and Porsche steering wheels, and is not looking much into quality. Probably on another interim update for the current models that already have the new steering wheel they will improve it. just keep moving inventory and keep people buying cars that quickly get outdated
