An idea for easy radar detector install
call me Mickey Mouse for not hardwiring in my detector but this way was simple and no wire hanging down or visabily running across the center of the dash like I had it before. Fits nicely in the left corner here. Simply ran the wire to the left of the vent and then tucked it into the groove across the top of the steering column and then into the 12 v plug. ( I don’t have the phone charge pad option). The wire is now very well concealed and I like my Radenso detector better on the left rather than the center of the dash. It's nice the way the Radenso has the on/off switch on the power plug in so you can easily reach over to turn it off if on the phone or it's continuously going off rather than having to reach for the unit itself.

Lol. I thought someone might say that when I looked at the picture after. My car lives in my house it is a family member 😀. Joking lol. That actually is my garage lol. Fireplace in the garage. I guess when the house was built it was a room but the people before me converted the room to a garage in the 70s.

That is a really good question, yes my car does have the acoustic glass option and you do have to be careful where you locate things like detectors and easy pass devices. As I remember though the strip all the way across the bottom is open, I'll have to look at the windshield close next time the car is in the sunlight, you can see the openings, there is also an opening just to the right of the windshield mounted rear view mirror, thats where my easy pass toll box is currently located. But ya, I'm liking this install, I can hardly see the wire at all, I'll just have to go by some speed signs with the speed readout to make sure the detector is still functional. This might be a better spot than the middle of the windshield too as cops generally sit in the center lane of highways with their radar guns.

Yep, thats is the Pro M, I really like it. Does not false very often and I like the lockout feature for things like speed detector signs and that kind of thing. Nice and compact. My new position seems to be working out good, the wire is hardly noticeable and the center console cover closes fine as the wire is fairly thin. The unit itself is nice and compact too which I like. Sometimes getting a car back from a dealer for service is a good thing. They had changed around all the seat settings and I'd removed the detector. When I put it back in the center of the dash with the cord exposed like it was i thought, nope gotta try something different. I found some better seat position settings too which are a little more comfortable, I was sitting too low before. So sometimes change is a good thing.

Here I am thinking radar detectors are so 90s and no one uses them anymore with laser instant on which seems all cops use now. How does this help when you have no detection from instant on laser?

You might want to watch Vortex Radar's many youtube videos on optimal detector placement. To summarize his videos on maximizing your radar detector's potential, you really want the unit as high as possible, as horizontal as possible, and as straight ahead as possible. That means most of the time, it is right next to the inside rear view mirror.
But Waze wouldn't work if you are the first one at the speed trap, or if the previous Wazer didn't log the location.

Waze is helpful, but on a number of occasions I've seen police who were not indicated on Waze. So I go with both a Uniden R3 on all the time for around town, and add Waze on when I'm on a trip.

But then I noticed you're from Florida. Why would a house even have a fireplace in Florida?

I guess it probably varies depending on which state your in. Around here I find cops leave their radars on in their cars and sit there monitoring traffic, generally on the side of the road or the center lane. The Detector has saved me a great many times and it is very useful. It seems to work good in the location I have it in now so I guess I'll just leave it where it is. It is mostly out of sight and mind especially with most of the wiring concealed now.

Let's not forget that cops also has the Waze app to monitor if their positions have been compromised.

Before I pick up any new car I provide the dealer with a hard wire (always order a bunch every time I buy a new Escort detector) and make them install it in the middle of dash.
Than all I have to do is to hook it up and never have to deal with unsightly wire in the middle of media system.

Love Audi A8/S8's approach to interior. Not a fan of the stuck-on iPad approach by MB and other manufacturers nowadays. Gotta have at least a physical gauge for the tach.
Sorry about going off topic here.

Also to answer your question, when they hit other cars ahead of you with both Radar and Laser, although not so much Laser as it more pinpoint, you get scatter and that can be picked up by the cars behind the cars they are hitting with the signals, I've had that happen a lot and it's saved me a lot of times.
