Ambient lighting Issue - Need Software Update?

I noticed that there should be multi color options and preset options for ambient lighting, which is standard in all our 2018 E63s. I’m not sure why mine only has 64 options but not the options to choose multi-color or presets? Do I need a software update?

It was a mid-production update. They updated the hardware halfway through the year, which is why it's so much smoother and faster on cars built later in the year. I'm not sure it can be retrofitted or updated since it would require the updated Command module.

Do you know what else this update
has that’s different than the earlier production?

Usually

Cars missing the ambient light are also missing trackpace as well. In the early build cars you also couldn’t control the right screen (comand) with the right touch pad on the steering wheel and there are minor software items that appear differently and work slightly different. Some of these items may have been updated in some recent Comand updates but I can say for retain that Trackpace and the LED ambient thing are not going to be updated ever as they require module changes and Mercedes as said that’s a no go.

Are the ambient lighting and the track pace the only things that changed? I am noticing that my parking cameras show me only the front tires (when going through the different toggle options) and I've seen videos of the cameras showing both the front and back tires:

Now I see what you were talking about. My 10/17 build has the update and looks like the lower picture.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this with Mercedes? I feel I am entitled to the same software and standard features all of the E63s have - the multi-color ambient lighting, Track Pace, side angle cameras that show both the front and rear wheels rather than just the front, and any other updates via the infotainment software/hardware.

I know that mine is a early production vs the mid-production and on that have the updated system but this car is the same year and these features are standard that should be the same across the board for all 2018 E63s in the U.S. Especially because I paid the same price as anyone who has the updated system.

What do you guys think? Do I have a good argument/point? Will Mercedes honor this?

Software wise, you should have the same with all other W213 E63s as long as your hardware are there to support it which you should ie LED strips and cameras.

I would contact MBusa before going to the dealer as the dealer needs to justify a software update like this to MBusa before it can be done so just go directly to the source to get the information you and and they can inform your dealer to do the update if it’s approved by MBusa.

Good luck and I would raise hell because I like the variety color of the ambient light and the 360 camera.

Thank you! I have reached out to MBUSA CAC and waiting to hear back. I also reached out to my service guy at my local dealer and he said that it requires a module hardware update for the lighting? Regardless, I am trying to see if a software update would fix most of my issues without any hardware work.

I definitely do not think I should be given a product that is not on par with every other 2018 E63s in regards to the standard features (lighting, Track Pace, full side camera view, and who knows what else).

Please contact: christian.treiber@mbusa.com

He is the VP at MBusa CAC and should assign you to a CAC Manger to handle your request. Good luck.
