No Head-Up Display For MY 2019?

Hi guys,

Currently in the process of ordering a 2019 E63S and the salesperson I'm working with is saying that there is no head-up display option for 2019 at all. I saw in the DOG that it had limited availability and remember reading on this forum that it was delayed to the second half of 2019, but not that it was no longer an option at all. Is my salesperson just misinformed or is there going to be no head-up display option for any 2019s that haven't been built yet? Thank you.

Nope. It's available but will delay the build by many months. An availability problem and they're not being clear about for how long.

This is what I read previously as well. My salesperson is saying its not even something I can order at this point in time. Is that accurate information? I told the dealership that I am willing to wait for HUD but the way they make it sound it isn't something that I can even wait for, unless I were to wait for a 2020 model.

Sounds like a price for having heated steering wheel lol )))

When I was on the market and tried to order MY2019 (back in May) salesman told me this is standard equipment and the same information was in dealer's configurator. Anyway, I bought it locally and happy to have it.

Thanks Mandarin. My understanding is that it used to be included either as standard equipment or in a package but was then pulled out of the package and included as a separately configurable option because of the supply-chain shortages.

Exactly. Only 1 dealership I spoke with had allocations with HUD, that is who I went with. My guess is some dealers were smart enough to configure all of them with HUD as soon as they could change the allocations.

Had delays in the UK too. It's the windscreen thats in short supply, the HUD equipped cars use a different part.

The HUD availability issue seems to apply to all 2019 models at this time. I wasn’t able to order it for my E53 Coupe. I did however see it on 2019 E450 Coupe already at the dealer. I didn’t think anyone really knows how long the delay will be.

MB has been having supply chain issues for a while. The reason the 2018 inventory levels was so low is because they had a shortage of digital instrument clusters. For the base E-class models they stopped offering it for a while because they needed to save them for the AMG models. Now this issue is happening with HUD.

Personally I think it is great. Supply limitations will prevent over-production and help re-sale value.

In the UK, there seems to be a timing issues which may tie into a post I saw from someone re changing the HUD and suppliers.

When I was enduring the pain I experienced while ordering, I was told I had a short window to order with the HUD as any orders post a certain time in September with the HUD would mean a undefined delay.

I was able to order a MY19 with it but it was one of the last allocations with the HUD.

The dealer I used said he couldn’t guarantee a delivery date post mid September orders and likely to be into 2019 post Feb onwards for a delivery.

Sounds like they are making a change either on spec, supplier or both and there is a changeover period?

I am in the US and this was similar to my experience. Ordered my car in April/May...and then eventually in late May-ish/early June my dealer told me that the HUD was on backorder and that if I wanted it, it could delay my order or I could have it scrapped and my order would remain unaffected. I chose the latter.

Just wanted to add that the HUD only really works at night because you will hardly be able to see during the day time with sunglasses on. Just my 2 cent.

This usually only applies when Polarized glasses are worn, non-polarized sun glasses work great.

I use my HUD day and night with no issues. I rarely wear sunglasses while driving though.

It is true about the none polarized sunglasses not seeing the HUD during the day time, but not about it being worn out. I have a brand new Oakley none polarized sunglasses and the wife is using the Channel also none polarized sunglasses and it is really hard to see. Just saying it wouldn’t be a make or break deal for me.

I use automagically tinting prescription glasses when driving if its sunny, but as the prescription is fairly light mainly just use them at night. In either case no problems seeing the HUD.

But if I use my polarized sun glasses not only is the HUD hard to see, the whole dash is wonky.

Shahul,
Did they give you an idea of when the HUDs are expected back? Originally I was hearing they were out completely but now maybe March Next year?

HUD is on delay, I just placed an order in September and I really wanted the option but did not want my build date to be pushed back into next year. Also another thing look into for is black multi spoke black amg wheels. Those are also on back order. My dealer was going to give me a October build date if i wanted silver but since I wanted the black ones it was pushed back all the way to December. There are a few other options on delay as well. I asked my dealer and they said to have HUB you will be looking at a February or March build date. Night Package is also on delay as well as the AMG projectors. My dealer just sent me a updated E class brochure.

They told me early 2019 it should be fine.. it isnt totally impossible now if its caught right...every now and then I just try and add it to a car randomly and it sticks.

I did it with a C63 coupe and a GLC63 suv... but then both were custom ordered without it lol..
