Curb rash repair - DIY?
The fun never stops.
When I picked up my car after the service for the CEL I gave it a thorough walk around inspecting the body, particularly around the front where mechanics would have been working, and all was well. Thought I looked at the wheels too, but can't remember for sure.
Friday afternoon as I was walking to car after work I noticed two chips out of the wheel, one fairly good size and a smaller one. Didn't see any rashing, just the chips, but have time to look closer as I was already running late.
I'm pretty darn sure in the 200 miles or so I've driven the car since picking it up from the shop that I've not gotten anywhere near a curb and that the tire sidewall treatment was all still shiny.
So, I'm thinking this most likely occurred sometime during the several weeks the car was at the dealership. Will have a call Monday and see what they say.
If they don't agree to take care of it, I'll have to get it fixed myself. Used someone for a previous rash repair, which turned out OK, but don't think I'll use that person again.
Considering trying to do it myself, as I've done other body work on previous cars and my race bikes, but never on a wheel.
Anyone have any tips?
I'll attach a photo later when I get around to the garage . . .

I personally would not attempt to fix it. I had a C450 rim welded and resurfaced to "as new" condition here in Cleveland a couple of years back and the total bill was $380. I can't imagine that I could get results even close to this and I value my time so, outsource it I did.

Ya, that could be tricky if you've never done it, it seems like kind of a art form to do. Sounds like about a 100 repair though at least around where I'm at so it should not be too bad, just a question of finding the right guy to do it, maybe do a local google search in your area. Sorry to hear this. If they are like my dealer, they won't pay anything towards it. I really think my dealer is trying to get rid of me the way I get treated because I know to much about cars. They seem to like older people with dementia so they can have their way with their wallets.

I had a lady walk right in front of me causing a good scrape of the right front. My dealer was able to fix it for $100. Have the black rims and you can not tell it ever happened. If not your dealer, most towns will have a wheel repair shop.

For painted wheel, there are a lot of options. For tinted forged wheels, I think you are SOL, and probably have to send it back to the manufacturer for repair.

If tinted?? I supposed, but I think it would be difficult to match the tint. If possible, then well worth the money.

I have the RTS black forged wheels.
When I took a closer look it wasn't as bad as I first thought. Should be a relatively easy repair. A little sanding, filler, etc.
There are some well rated mobile repair outfits in SD. The guy who did my previous repair was well rate, and I'm sure he'd do an OK job again - but I'd like something a step up from OK.
