Map Update

Only other trick is to know it takes a while in the car. Something like a half hour. If the CAN times out (the screens go blank) just power on COMAND (press the volume button in the center console) and it will continue updating. You might have to turn on the engine if the battery gets a little low. I connect a battery charger/minder when doing this.

Looking on the Mercedes map update web site, it says map updates are free for three years, but for the 2018 with the COMAND system it requires a dealer visit.
Interestingly, my car also had the wireless charging pad and the carbon fiber center console, which per the DOG was not an option. So, no 13 VDC plug in the center console or old school ash tray - thank goodness. But, my car also does not have the 12 VDC plug up front under the dash near the passenger's knee - no 12 VDC up front at all. The only plug I have is in the back seat along with the 120 VAC outlet which I chose as one of the options.
A month later when Parker (Vehicle Virgins) took delivery of his car, it - at least from looking at a couple of his videos - does have the additional 12 VDC plug up front.
So, seems Mercedes was phasing in some mid year changes in the Nov to Dec 2017 timeframe for the 2018 MY.

All of North America is about 20 gigabytes. I don't know if Europe is less detailed (fewer POIs?) or whether you also only get local information OTA, but I can't imagine MB pushing 20 gigs though mobile networks to all of their cars.
