The only complaint I would have with the M5 is the sound. Nothing compares to AMG in that department. The M5 has the same ZF8 trans as the RS7 and if it’s programming is as good as it is in the Audi (I suspect it’s actually better) then it’s a better trans than the E63’s MCT for 95% of the tasks its asked to perform.

I’m tuned with DPs and stuck at 10.43 with these crappy Continentals on the heavy OEM 21” cast wheels and our DA at 3000ft and rising. I’m hoping for 10.2s with Michelins on significantly lighter 20” wheels and better weather.

Love the RS7 platform once modded as it gains the most over stock with DP's and tune. I will say this, having had both the W213 E63S and the F90 M5, the sound on the F90 needs work but unlike the F10 M5 which didnt impress me with aftermarket exhaust- the F90 with an exhaust does the trick. Its still not deep like the E63S but it carries a more exotic tune which to me is great too. But yes it required a purchase. As for the ZF in the M5 its every bit as good as my two previous RS7's and as you stated, I think its just a bit better. Response to throttle inputs, transmission intuition on slow downs and throttle punches is on tap and super fast. And while the MCT creates a brutal launch feel it also clunks and jerks which to some can be annoying while the ZF is very fluid. I have 4 cars right now with DCT's and its hard to discern the difference between it and the F90 ZF during regular and even aggressive driving on the same roads.

Mike did the F90 look like this?

Yes, it was beautiful and as I mentioned looked quite sporty and compact for a midsize sedan. And unlike the RS7 it will probably have a ton of aggressive aftermarket carbon bits to dress it up. I have no doubt I could make an M5 look just as aggressive as the E63. I look forward to running him again after tune and DPs. He said he had heard of someone in SoCal with the Burger tuner running low 10s already. Any confirmation on this? The ZF8 is an amazing trans and as a bonus it’s OBDII tunable too! Too bad AMG is insistent on reinventing the wheel instead of outsourcing the right tool for the job.

That’s perfect, subtle but adds that hint of aggressiveness. I’m thoroughly disappointing at how few options there are for the RS7, especially since this generation has nearly completed its cycle already...

Thanks. Yes the RS7 just didnt have the market. I did get a trunk lid lip spoiler but that was on my 14 RS7- I left my 17 OEM. But there are no front fascia mods that are attractive but thankfully the polarizing looks of the sportback were just fine for me/us!!

What goes into tuning a transmission like the ZF8 at a high level?

Those are some consistent *** 10.2-10.3s runs...

I wish the M5 front radar stuff was hidden better. Then the kidney grill catastrophe, then the headlights... not terrible, but a step back from the F10 I think

I don’t know the details but I do know that I tell my tuner what parameters I want changed (firmer and/or quicker shifts, less tq management, RPM, etc) and he emails me a file that takes just a few seconds to load through OBDII with my HP Tuners device.
