E53 AMG Coupe +4
Angry New Member with AMG E53 Problem

Hello fellow MB owners

I took delivery of an AMG E53 in Thailand 2 weeks ago. After completing about 700 kilometers, in traffic I pulled away from a u-turn on a busy highway and the cars engine started heavy black smoking. I pulled over and the car is now being investigated by MB Thailand.

Have any other members had any issues with the new E53 or similar models.

I would like to add the car has been driven within the warranty guidelines.

Steve.

2020 E53 AMG Coupe
2020 E53 AMG Coupe Lemon - under 1,500 KM

I better not have a flat tire

The car started to shut down and would not allow driving over 20 km/h

Finally the coolant leaked out and the car was taken to the service centre

I never touched the rear right backrest.
My E53 AMG Coupe was delivered to me on October 2, 2019. Within two days a gasket failed on the car which caused it to go into safe mode and would not travel at speeds above 20 km/H. Exactly 31 days after delivery, the check engine light came on as well saying that the rear seat back was loose. After another visit to the shop on November 13, they have to order the part causing the check engine light to go on (oil level sensor) and take apart half the engine to replace it. Apparently the care is safe to drive. I have to go back to the shop to have the work done in about three weeks. This morning, November 13, 2019, the tire pressure monitor is inoperative. The car is a lemon and engineered poorly. I gave up my BMW M650 for this misrepresented Mercedes. I can't believe it.

Wow, that's terrible and I hope just unlucky in terms of so many issues in one car. Hopefully, once everything is sorted out, it will be as reliable as most Mercedes tend to be.

I’ve had my E53 Coupe for 11 months and 11,000 miles with only a couple of very minor issues that were quickly resolved. The engine and the electronics have been essentially flawless.

Did Steve and David get their issues resolved. Yeah it’s always scary. Our 63 cars had the check engine light issue hit random cars in the first couple years of production. Now they’ve fixed it. David’s car seems like a lemon for sure. I have to say I’m on my 3 Mercedes, two of them AMGs and have been happy.

No problems with my E450's. I thought about eventually getting the next Gen E450 but am nervous that is gonna have the inline 6 hybrid combo and might just consider driving my current wagon long term if that is the case.

Well, there are always exceptions. You can have 3xMercedes (and be really happy) and change to BMW which came as a lemon or 3xBMW (and be really happy) and change to Mercedes which came as a lemon... If a car pass 10k km and not much happened - you are mostly lucky. Each new car I buy I always pray hoping I wouldn't be me... As a BMW owner and that's my first Mercedes, one thing I can say for sure ...

BMW service >>>>>> MB service ... Even MB service admits BMW is light years ahead of MB, and when I was changing winter wheels MB put rear right wheel to front and front to rear... So far so good.

What exactly makes you nervous about it?

Fires. If I had one of those cars I’d probably have a fire extinguishing system installed in the car. I sometimes leave my car for long periods on a battery maintainer and i’d be real worried while I was away. Those fire threads I’ve read on these cars scare me. There’s been a few such threads.

I have seen two, with the owner of one of those posting here. While one is too many, have there been reports of others? Also, has anyone seen anything from the owners of these two cars describing the outcome of the investigation into the cause?

Do you also not use a cell phone? I've seen hundreds of cell phone fires that scare me too.

I just would not have been comfortable with all the extra complexity of the E53 amg, I realize thats how things are going with cars as more and more become hybrid and thats probably the reason i'll hold onto my E450's real long term.

E53 Squeeking Noise

Hi i’ve had two e53 coupe and both of them make a squeeking noise at around 30-40mph. Dealership cannot identify what the fault is. They keep cleaning and replacing the brakes and discs but problem still not fixed

18 months with my E53 Coupe. I had a couple minor issues in the beginning. No problems since my first "A"service in November 2019. I still enjoy driving the car.

In general Mercedes makes a solid reliable car and you sure do appreciate that during a Pandemic as the fewer dealer visits the better. My S class has been dead nuts reliable and same as my E450 Wagon. For now I'll just do the maintenance myself, simple enough. Jeremy. So are you saying the brakes squeak at 30 to 40 mph when you are on the brake pedal or is it when your just driving along? Also is it when your on the brake pedal hard or lightly?, these questions make a difference in determining what the problem really is.
