I like the feel of the car with the ESP off--as I understand it the nannies are not completely disabled and the car is much easier to rotate in turns with the throttle. If I don't know the roads than I just use Sport+ as it is set by the factory so that the nannies are there to help if need be.
Yes, I found the brakes don't get as hot while in individual manual Sport+ mode going up hill but they still get to the point of giving off the hot brake smell when you pull over.

Please help me understand: spirited “driving in the canyons” heats up the brakes. And one would expect they smell like roses when pulling over?

The Mercedes ESP system works by applying braking pressure to the wheel it senses needs to slow down to maintain stability the corners..

That and limit wheelspin even if you're on a stable trajectory.

I'm typically in Race mode when canyon carving because in Sport+ the little ESP icon winks on regularly.

Around town I'll also pop it briefly into Race mode for certain corners where I know ESP activates in Sport+ mode.

I've only disabled ESP under controlled circumstances in large parking lots where I won't be a danger to traffic or myself. Same for drift mode.

edit: I was told my pads were at 4 mm before the metal, and the rotors were warped. No track or even canyon carving even. It’s just the family SUV that hauls baby and dogs. It is 5,200 lbs though with 577 hp rear biased so like ronin said ESP doesn’t want you to die and cooks the rear brakes.
all 4 pads alone are $1,100 with labor non-CCB

with rotors is wayyy more expensive, CCB or no -CCB

I like the fact that it works better in Sport+ mode and I won't turn it off completely since it helps to control the beast...

Now to flush the fluid again with Castrol SRF
