Front license plate mount W213 E63s Solution
Hello everyone, Living in CA I am required to have a front plate, I found a solution and wanted to share with everyone. I bought this from https://bigmikesperformanceparts.com...-sedan-sns175/ they make the mounts for other AMG models as well, relatively cheep and it works. Only thing is it does tend to scrap on some driveways and exits that are steep. It uses factory mounting points and can come off with a pull of the pin.

I too live in CA but have never mounted my front plate. Don't have one on my Jeep or Truck either. Never been pulled over for the plate. Did get pulled over in the Jeep for tinted windows but they didn't cite me for the plate.

Been driving in CA for 45 years, and never had a front plate, and never been pulled over for it. I guess there's always a first time. This is a nice solution, but I would wait until I got pulled over to get one, then take it off again after the DMV inspection. I've already instructed my dealer NOT to install a front plate when my car arrives.
Oh and by the way...$95? WTF?

I'm in CA and the same story -have't been pulled over yet. I've heard there are some areas that will ticket you when you're parked and don't have a front plate. I have a wagon with the exterior CF package and it looks like that won't quite fit. I want to lower it but I get beep warnings regularly that I'm getting close to scraping so anything lower that what I already have will probably get torn off.

I do that. If I lower though that changes the base height. EG I drop it 20 mm the raised height is now 20mm lower. And sometime you just don't have time to raise it.

I just ordered the same bracket for my wagon, but the backing plate that I received to mount the license plate only has two holes for the top of the plate which does not make it possible for put a frame on the plate. In your pic, I can see you have two bottom screws also. Did your backing plate come with 4 screw holes?

[QUOTE=AMG RB;8012146]That’s not what my dealer is telling me, he says the Germans are quite strict about mounted plates in
No doubt! German plates must be fastened with hardware. The rules are no joke... but good. I wish the U.S. had the same driving and safety rules...You can't have adhesive plates flying off at 165MPH!

Not sure how mine were attached for my European Delivery, but they stayed on - both front and back - at upwards of 170 mph on the Autobahn.
There was no drilling of the front bumper or other abuse of the bodywork to mount the front plate.
The Euro plate bracket was removed at completion of the European Delivery trip. The US front plate bracket was in the trunk when I picked up the car from the US dealer after the car made it home to the US.

That is great that they must make an exception for ED. Having lived in Germany 10 collective years, when you register you car there the inspection is quite rigorous and it includes the hardware stipulation. But agree not having a marked up front end would be desirable especially when in states that dont require a front end plate.

I bought a tow hook mount for my license plate. I still don't have my title (bought the car in Oct) so I haven't received/ mounted my license plate yet. Delaership says DMV is backed up.....

I like the idea of an adhesive replica front plate. I just don't see how there's room for it on the front on an E63, unless it was extremely miniaturized, which might not go over well with the folks in blue.

That said, like the gentleman above, I've never had an issue (across multiple cars that didn't come with a built-in front plate mount) with the lack of front plate in CA.
I think the only time you really need to worry about it is if you're someone who has frequent run-ins with the local constabulary and expect the book to be thrown at you as a result.
