Blacking out the grille

What is the easiest way to black out the grille? The place that did my PPF tried to wrap it but they said there are too many complex angles and it didn't look good. They also said that the Plastidip wouldn't last with bugs and rocks and stuff. Is there a black replacement piece that's not carbon that we can buy?

I am also interested in this, My wrap guy will try it this Saturday, hopefully it will turn out good. I have every piece of chrome on my car wrapped in satin black besides the rear diffuser in gloss black. I tried to ask my parts department at my dealer if they made one but they said Mercedes does not have one.

Ok cool. My wrap people tried twice and they said it didn't look good so they removed it.

My full ppf started today, I am curious to see how they execute on the grill...it’s just a clear though so perhaps easier than black.

Probably just technique. I moved 400 miles and still use the guy I've been using for a decade back where I used to live because I can't find anyone that's as good as he is. You may just have to feel around for another shop that CAN do it.

My guy did it and then undid it. He said it wasn’t undetectable so he couldn’t leave it as it was. I thought it was perfect, but he is nuts and said he can’t let it leave the shop. I am going to go carbon and have him wrap that regardless of imaginary application defects.

Interesting, that's the exact same thing my guys said. Did you take a picture of the grille?

Side note... why would someone buy a white Ferrari just to wrap it red?

Holy hell...it’s an insane job too. Car owner is a known nut case. Has torn up many a nice car even though he was discouraged to do so by the guy who is doing all this work at significant cost. Apparently if you wrap in a matte color and then overwrap it with ppf you get a much deeper color...that is what is going on here. Matte wrap plus expel ultimate plus over the top and then two coats of ceramic. South Florida is a hell of a place.

That is arguably the biggest waste of money I have ever heard of. He is welcome to pay off the loan on my E63 if he has endless funds...

Remove the Grill and paint it. I painted mine Obsidian Black. You cant properly wrap it. Its too much stretch on the bottom "wing"

I just picked a black one up on eBay that has pretty solid reviews. Will post back in a week or so when I get it on quality.

No bubbles, no issues at all. Not sure why anyone would have an issue doing this. I can take more pics a year on as it’s still in great condition.

Please post some close ups. Are you sure its wrapped in 1 piece? I tried it myself you cant stretch the middle around the "Ring" well and you have to cut and wrap both wings seperate out of one piece thats a lot of tension.
Asked the 3 best wrapping Companies also they said the same they won't wrap it one piece because too much tension on the edges wont last "long" they said. Would love to see close ups from every angle.

My guy is really good, Said the same about wrapping it in pieces. They said to paint it as well but only issue is I have to leave the car, I dont really like leaving my car at shops.
