Hey guys I’m new to MB world and bought a 2019 E63S back in May. The car is daily driven and I live in NJ and am in need of all season tires for this up coming winter. Just wondering what your guys thoughts were on the Michelin as/4s in 265/40r20 and 295/35r20? I just wanted to make sure I won’t have any rubbing or sensor issues before I made my purchase. Thank you

I bought these .. Michelin as4 but won’t be using them for winter as I do I have a winter set already.

do note the size you have is not quite right.

i bought :
f: 255/35/20 (factory size 265/35/20 is not available just yet)
r: 295/30/20

tirerack has not released their results from winter testing just yet. If you base the Michelin as3+ and knowing the as 4 is a slight improvement, I guess the latter tire should be decent for winter usage.

Thank you. I was originally looking for the sizes that you posted earlier in the thread but I couldn’t find them on tire rack that’s why I started looking at larger sizes.

Better use an online tire size calculator to figure out the resulted deviation from factory spec.

you can buy from your local tire shop too.

I had no luck with any of my local suppliers and my Mercedes dealer only offers two options which are both summer tires. I was looking at the bridgestones but I didn’t like the test results. Thank you for the input I’m going to keep searching and see what I come up with.

I've had the Bridgestone's on my 2018 for 23000 miles and they still are only half worn. It was not worth for me to have severe winter tires installed here in NC. They work fine on light snow which is mostly what we get here.

Not OEM dimensions for the front tire.

As mentioned previously, it is about 1% deviation from factory.

@60mph, it is 1% slower in reading than the stock
Circumference is 1% smaller than stock
sidewall height will be 0.2 inch lesser than stock

Gotcha, but the handling might be affected by the difference in sidewall compliance from the narrower tire. If MB wanted to use the 255 dimension then the car should have been specified with it.

I also use 255 / 40/ 19 square for my winter setup. I don’t drive it on any tracks and anything beyond 160kph , I suppose that 1% variance is acceptable, at least for me.

bobble head, are you able to update your thoughts on the Michelin all season tire? I am looking to change out my 20 in P-zero run flats. I already have a set of winter Vredstein 19”, but wondering how you liked the all seasons. Can’t really understand the need for PS4’s on my E53 Cab. It’s nowhere near a race car and will never see a the track( no cabs allowed at NJ Motorsport ) I am thinking of going 19 in aftermarker with the AS4 . Maybe throw on my 20” PZero runflats in July and August . Thanks.

I now have one full spring/summer/fall season usage out of them. They are not as grippy like the 4S (obviously, that should be expected, maybe 80% of the 4S capability), for wet traction, they are pretty good as long you are not testing the extreme limit of them (I would say they are pretty good in the fall and rainy season. As you know, the 4S needs to be in a 20 degree Cel range to have optimal grips in dry and wet, that's where the AS4 will excel better over the 4S in the fall season). Road noise I would say they are better than the 4S and for the overall ride, I actually enjoy the AS4 a lot more due to soft compound on them perhaps.

As a daily commuter car, the AS4 is good enough for me and still be able to have a few spirited drives once a while.

Thanks for the fast reply! I am thinking of doing a full wheel /tire all season package and maybe putting my OEM 20’s on in Summer and saving them for trade in time. More wheel choices with20 “ but 19 would be more comfortable and I think look good still. I actually don’t like the look of real low profile on a E series.

I just bought a tire / wheel package from Tire Rack. Michelin AS4 on 19 inch wheels. OEM sizes for my car. Being delivered as I type this. I could have gone 20’s with my OEM wheels but decided to save those for mid summer. So now I have dedicated winter Vredestein’s ( which are seriously fantastic) All seasons for mid March through November and maybe put my 20” with PZero runflats in mid summer. Not a fan of the run flats. The AS4 are regular. I bought a mini inflater/ goop kit from Griots Garage in case I get a flat. Thanks for the feedback on the AS4s.

just do trial & error on having your tire pressure adjusted to your comfort level. For my 20 AS4, I set 41/36.

This video series I think is the best apples-to-apples comparison I've seen in a number of conditions.Michelins weren't in stock when I was looking and so I got the Continental DWS06s Pluses. I've driven them like they were stolen - held up to a lot of abuse. Def not as good as my summer Pilot Sport 4s set, but not getting that much more understeer.

I feel in dry with good temperature they are ~90% of the Pilot Sport 4s, but unlike the former they don't slide insanely on snow.

Not as good as a snow tire, but for New York City this year I think it was the right choice.

We had our first snow here in NY yesterday and I took the car out last night to check them out--not a lot of snow but enough (roads totally covered) to get a feel--I was seriously impressed. Car handles better than my ML550 with Pirelli snows which I drove just before checking out the E63s. Car stopped and handled amazingly well. Very confidence inspiring. I find the 19" wheels with this tire (a high performance snow tire) gives up very little in performance--dragy 0-60 times very close to the PS4's and lateral grip is also very good. These tires have not dampened my right foot in the least. It has transformed the car w/r/t ride quality. The harsh, hard and noisy ride with the PS4's is greatly reduced and the car in some respects is more fun--without having to drive at 9-10/10ths you can move the rear around with the throttle. Don't get me wrong I want the PS4's when I am driving twisty back roads and on the track but for day to day fun the 19" wheel with deeper and softer side-walled tires is worth considering. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
any chance you have an old photo of this setup? Thanks!
