AMG High Performance engine oil on E43?
Hello everyone


is it necessary to use the AMG High Performance oil on W213 E43 AMG?

specs

SAE 0W40
MB 229.5


I have been using the regular silver bottle Mercedes oil 229.5

There’s a list of approved oil standards in the owners manual. That said I’ve put Mobil 1 full synthetic in every car I’ve ever owned with zero issues

No, it is not necessary.
I would not use that oil. Better choice is mercedes one you mentioned if you are choosing between oem oil.

Anybody know anything about the new 0W16 oils that have just come out? They are supposed to be backward compatible with previous standard oils.

I'm not sure what that means. 0W-16 should only be used in engines (all Japanese, as far as i know) that were designed for low-viscosity oil. It's used in small engines to increase gas mileage. There are no 229.5 oils in that grade.
