Anyone got a build date for a ‘21 order?

Mine was very frustrating. Ordered in April 2019, for European Delivery in early October. Car was built in September, but they would let me pick it up as the 2020’s weren’t released yet. I ended up being given a ED loaner (E63s sedan, mine was a wagon) after having to raise hell to not get the Maybach they thought I wanted to drive throughout Germany and Switzerland. I got my car at the dealer in mid December 2019, with no miles in it. Wasn’t a bad deal at the end of the day, but found MBNA to be super cryptic and difficult to order from. Double check your build once it is confirmed. That was a whole other headache.

If you’re going to be OK with walking from the car once it’s in the showroom, then a no deposit/no commitment order seems like a great place to be as a buyer.
If you ‘have to have’ the car you ordered, then get the price negotiated in writing now.

Deposits are also a factor of what you order and how much the dealership wants to "lock you in" to the car. If you order something that the dealership is confident they can sell to somebody else, they may waive the deposit. This way, if you are indecisive when it arrives, they can dump you and sell it to somebody else. However, if you order something with an unusual combination of colors or options, a deposit would "lock you in" to the car.
As for negotiating the price, I've never negotiated the price until the car shows up.
There are positives and negatives to this.
On the positive side, you don't know what incentives will be available when the car shows up, there may be some you can use. Also, once the dealer has the car, they're motivated to move it, especially if its a special build. They WANT to sell it to you. Getting stuck with a slow moving, special build car is NOT good for a dealer. E63 wagons sell in very small numbers. As such, if the dealer orders one for you, they want you to take it. You can use this to your advantage in negotiating the price.
On the negative side, you don't know what the market conditions will be when the car shows up. If you order an E63 and they are hotter than hot when it shows up, the dealer can tack on extra fees or whatever they want in an attempt to maximize their profits. You also don't know what the lease rates will be when the car shows up (if you're leasing.)
In short, you and the dealership are gambling together that when your special build shows up, you will buy and they will make some money. I think its beneficial to wait until the car arrives to negotiate price. Because then the stakes are higher for both sides. You are negotiating with a tangible object and real conditions.

My production date slipped from October (2nd decade) to November (2nd decade). As of last Friday, the status hadn’t yet changed to reflect the start of production.
I have never failed to negotiate the price of a car prior to placing the order. Leaving that task until the car arrives is entirely too much of a gamble for the buyer. AMG leases aren’t as flexible (MF-wise) as regular MBs, anyway. In the case of this new E63S sedan, I received a very satisfactory discount from MSRP (my dealer asked me not to share it publicly) and, though asked for a $2K deposit, it hasn’t yet been charged, despite my having a written order in hand. In the past, I’ve sometimes paid a deposit and sometimes not - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
At the moment, I’m hoping for a late-December or early-January delivery.

I have a February build with a March delivery. If it pushes back a bit it's fine with me, I would rather get it in Spring. (Don't feel like swapping to winter tires for a short time)
