Where is the speedometer speed measured?

Where is the measurement point for the speed readout (front or rear axle)? The current OEM setup has the circumference of the front tires about 1% greater than the rear tires. The front tire size that is equal is 255/35-20.

To the best of my knowledge, the speedometer shows the average between all four wheel speed sensors. Each wheel has a speed sensor that is already used for ABS, ESP, traction control etc. to determine the individual speeds of each wheel and the overall speed of the car, so the ESP etc. can determine if intervention is required. The speedometer just visualizes the overall speed.
