Augmented Reality Navigation in 2021 E53

Just purchased a 2021 E53 in Ontario, Canada. When you go to the configuration online it shows that Augmented Reality is standard with the car. The sales person also said it was standard. But the AR button doesn’t show up nor is it in the settings area. When I look at my VIN online I don’t see U19 which is the code. If it’s a standard option shouldn’t it be there?

If you go into Navigation settings, you should see some AR options in there.

yea. That’s what the manual says as well but they are missing from my menu.

I booked an appointment for this week at the dealer.

The other thing I noticed is that I don’t have any ambient lighting above the MBUX screens like it shows on every video I’ve seen of the car. I have it below but not above.

My last observation is what everyone has said. The 20” Pirelli Run Flats are garbage. What a horrible ride! I bought the tire and rim protection so I’m not sure what my options are. I might just suffer thru until it’s time to replace.

Otherwise I really love the car! Had a 2019 A6 and this is a lot more fun!

I had to order the AR with mine. I don’t have it yet, but it is on the build sheet U19 augmented video for navigation. Here it is a $350 option.

yea. Wondering if they can add after the fact if it’s not there since it shows as a standard option in Canada and I was told it was there. We shall see this week when I visit the dealer.

It’s standard equipment in Canada. You should just ask dealer to install any missing hardware and then update the software. Anything short of this is unacceptable

Yep… totally agree. I’m hoping it’s not a battle and just a simple request. Will update the thread after the visit.

Mb Canada sold you a car that’s not agreed to what you paid in a contract. Therefore, fix it or mb Canada needs to take the car back and refund you every $.

Well… took the car in last week. They said it’s not equipped with Augmented Reality even though it’s a standard feature. The sales rep and sales manager have not returned my calls as of yet. So I’ll give them till end of day Monday and then reach out to MB Canada.

That's a shame. Wonder what happened. It's like the 2021 G63 where they made wireless charging standard and then people say it doesn't have it.

you may want to get omvic involved too as they are the lead agency to resolve any of this auto sales contract dispute

I have the same problem with the E53 that I got last week. I noticed over the weekend that I don't have the Dashcam app or Augmented Video. The sales rep initially told me that that feature is not standard in E53. Then I called MBUSA, they gave me some options including may be able to "buy back" the car from me. Today I went to the dealer back again, the sales rep told that MB told him the hardware is installed in E53, it only requires a software update on a future date. It could take up to 3 to 6 months for it.

I am not sure I believe that 100%, I am going to call MBUSA again...

Pretty sure the hardware is missing due to the chip shortage... I haven't seen anywhere that they are retrofitting dashcams/augmented reality chips in the future. Just the chips for the Hermes communication modules will be retrofitted once they are available Q1 22.

MBUSA told me today they will likely have it by the end of the year and then retrofit it with a software update. I hope that is true.

I'm currently shopping an E63S and on the build sheets, it says either Retrofit or Omission beside certain features, including the Augmented Reality, supposedly this is based on the chip shortage and if it shows "Retrofit", the chip will be shipped to the dealer when available and the service department can install it, activating the feature. If it shows as "omission", then no chip is expected to be shipped and the car may be without that feature. Still unclear if that means there is no way to include it after the fact and the dealer is reaching out to MB Canada for details.

wow. If this is totally omitted from the final built car, then would MB Canada adjust the base MSRP ? It should IMO.

I agree, they should however I looked at two builds side by side, one with omissions and one with retrofit, the price was the same. Now, if something is listed as retrofit and the chip takes more than 12 months to arrive, will they adjust or if its ultimately cancelled, what happens. All questions i'm asking the dealer and I can share as I hear more.

I suggest you put in a conditional clause to ask for compensation if this omission of a standard equipment is permanent.
