Newbie - Runflat Rim Size Question
Good Evening All,
Newbie to MB World but not to performance vehicles. Just sold my Audi S4 and Boxster S for a 2018 E43 to be used as a daily driver. Time to scratch the AMG itch. Car has 20" Pirelli runflats which we all know has trade-offs. Car will not be tracked. I would like to soften the ride a touch to preserve my back and quiet the ride to soften my wife's complaining. I will need to deal with Wisconsin winters and starting to plan for upcoming snow options. Here's my questions covering both my objectives::
1) Anyone have experience of running 19" run-flats vs 20" run flats? They still need to support the vehicle with no air pressure so I'm not sure if moving down to 19"s would have any effect?
2) Anyone have experience with 19" run flats vs 20" non run flats? Curious if the stiff 19" ZP side wall is materially different than a 20" with virtually no side wall?
3) Tire rack has 18" winter tire packages for this vehicle all the same widths. Has anyone run 18" non run flat tires on their E43 all year round? At that tire size, the options really open up. Do these really fit?
4) Due to road tripping and no spare anxiety, has anyone found a MB spare tire kit I could keep in the trunk all wrapped up and tidy? Any part numbers or vendor names would be greatly appreciated?
I've had very good experiences with all season tires on my S4 over the past 10 years so not sure if I need full winter ties. The days we get a blizzard, i just stay home and the S4 never had issues going through 4-6 inches of the white stuff.. Any other options people have considered that I have not thought of would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
DK

Tirerack fitment is all confirmed - I am running a 265/40/19 winter setup on my S213 AMG. I also got a full size spare in this size to take on roadtrips.

Thank You -Do you use the trunk insert?
Ditch the runflats, get some quality non-runflat tires and one of these spares

Thank you for the tip on the spare wheel kit. Have you seen or do you use the spare wheel well trunk insert? ECS Tuning has one and curious how it fits in the trunk. It says MB OEM so I am wondering if it's for foreign markets that may require a spare.
There is no underfloor space for a spare on the S213/W213 AMG due to the air reserve tank for the suspension.
