2021 E63s grinding noise when turning
I think I saw a similar thread about noisy steering, but the description was a little different. My E63s just passed 1900 miles and has suddenly started making a grinding noise when turning sharply to the right at any speed. The sound is coming from the left front wheel or axle area. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if it was diagnosed/repaired.

I'd be happy if it is something minor such as that. I can't get my hand or arm in there to feel around. It's due for the rear differential oil to be changed so I'll have it looked at when that is done. It is a little relief to see no one mentioning axle, bearing or more serious issues.
These cars have a pretty significant wheel cut giving you amazing turning radius, and at full lock the Ackerman angle results in your front tires to chirp/hop/skip but that only happens at full turn which means that you are driving at a very low speed. The other possibility at very low speed turning would be the LSD chirping at the rear.
Could it be either of these? I have experienced all of the above in other cars that I own. My new wagon only has 917 miles and I have not driven it enough to learn its personality.

I don't think it is. This was first noticed on the road down the mountain where we live on a switchback turn to the right. I was going about 35 mph through the turn when the grinding started. It sounds more like a light metal grinding, not tire chirping. I have experienced that on these roads with our GL450 when it Continental tires on it. This is a very different sound.

It will be a while before I can get it in to the dealer. Wife had knee replacement two days ago and I won't be leaving the house for anything other than doctor appointments.

No they don't, at least for me. I live an hour and a half away. They are in East TN and I'm in the mountains in Western NC. I'm hoping to be lucky enough to get a loaner when I can drop it off.

Interesting. Seems odd that it would only be on one side if it were the tires. The road coming up to our community and home have hairpin curves and switchbacks galore so I have to turn to the maximum in both directions. This only occurs when turning hard to the right. Not saying it's impossible, just seems odd. Did you get a copy of the advisory?

I don't believe that your issue is with the tires. The advisory talks about temps below 45 degrees and skipping on wet surfaces at very slow speed with sharp turns either left or right. Your first assumption might be right about a universal joint. I also assume that you've checked the bolts on the wheel as well for correct torque.
