E43 Owners with a Tune

It's pretty impossible to find a video or thread of an E43 with a stage 1 tune, preferably from Eurocharged as their stage 1 tune makes more than competitors. I know that the car can do 0-60 in about 4.4 seconds, but was wondering the 0-60 time after the tune. I'm assuming it would be about 4.0 or less, probably 3.9. I know 0-60 doesn't translate well into the real world, but I just want some thoughts and inputs of an E43 owner with a tune, how they thought of before and after the tune, etc. There is one video on YouTube of an E43 with a stage 1 tune with pops/bangs but it's a German.

A CPO E43 could be one of my future cars, as long as it has the intelligent drive package, E63s steering wheel, and premium package, so fully loaded lol. That or the C63S.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
I have a 43 with..

A RT tune. Others may make a bit more HP, but the smooth running, transition, and their reliability made it the best choice for me...

Completely agree. 63 or don't bother.

Mannn y'all are right about the 63. It's mostly just me alone 90% of the time, so no need for the bigger vehicle of the E class. I feel like I'd instantly do a stage 1 tune with burbles & with a secondary cat delete and be the most obnoxious person just revving the **** out of it everywhere lol.

I personally went with an E43 as I couldn't justify the extra cost to get to an E63S, I'll be doing performance upgrades down the road as I just got the car. One thing is to buy it, but another thing is to maintain it over a longer period of years. Yeah the V8 BiTurbo sounds a lot better, don't get me wrong, I would have done the 63, if I could justify it. But I got plenty of other things to spend the $40-50k on. I am referring to the E63S wagon, I know they are $10-20k more than the sedans, but that's still a good chunk of money.

It seems to have plenty of power as it sits now, and to be honest I wasn't to impressed with the local Euro Tuners, I am on the fence right now about what I want to do with it. I do want the 130 MPH limiter lifted as that is really annoying. I haven't put 1000 miles on the car yet since I got it, I am looking at warranty options. I had thoughts on getting it and then immediately going to get it tuned, but I am most interested in reliability so I may one of these days go get it done, but I spent the budget I had set aside for tuning on a 3 step paint correction and ceramic coating for it, my next purchase is the fidelity warranty even though everything on it right now is 100%. Honestly just my opinion for what I use the car for, at this point it has all the power in the world compared to the E300 I had previously. It's no E63, I think it's just the right combo of power when needed and efficiency on the interstate with the ability to get up and haul A** if needed. LOL so far im happy with it. I will def, keep you all posted on my next steps.

Im happy with it! Looks great, drives great, couldn't be happier right now!

Great color combo, as far as that Fidelity warranty goes, I would suggest against it, they are sticklers for modifications, even an ecu tune. We are getting on-boarded to issue Fidelity policies now, but I would not suggest that for this car, you go with Freedom Warranty, another extended warranty company we work with, they are fine with turning as long as the tune is not what results in subsequent damage. I've got you at $4,595 for a 5 year / up to 100k mile manufactures extension. Just as good as Fidelity when it comes to getting claims accepted, and a little cheaper, especially with your possible modifications plans. Contact me at (602) 909-9216 or tgibson@highline-autos.com to answer any of your warranty questions.

Paint looks great. I personally wouldn't get a warranty. Our vehicle engines are the same besides the transmission, and these cars are pretty reliable. What's the mileage you're currently at? I'm currently around 64,000 KM's. I know it's low, but I haven't encountered any issues, and I too purchased a third party warranty. I would just contact Eurocharged and ask them about the stage 1 tune that'll get you up to 480 horsepower and 520 pound feet for about $1200 with the handheld. When you upload that tune onto the car, you won't even recognize the car. I can't even properly explain how BIG of a difference it was going from the stock tune to the modded tune.

I'm at 14,000 miles now. I talked with Trent from highline auto's above and thats probably the direction I will go is with him if I do get a warranty on it. I meant to say the Freedom and made a mistake and said Fidelity in my earlier post. I will likely start my warranty first from Trent, and then see about "potentially" going to get it tuned. A lot of people are saying the engine is tuned to the max already by AMG and that any further tuning starts to degrade and wear fast on the engine. However I only keep these cars about 24 months anyways and then move on to the next toy like many of us on here do. Since you commented on the paint here is the picture after the ceramic job. I highly suggest that investment on these cars... Water, dirt, and grit effortlessly just roll off!

Here is the day I picked it up from the ceramic application 12,800 miles now sits at 14,000

If you're only at 14,000 miles and plan on moving on from it in two years, what's the point for the warranty? I inquired about ceramic coating and was asked by the guy if I plan on keeping the car for the next few years and I said no. He told me not to go through with it as it wouldn't be worth it (for me), as I plan on switching vehicles in the next few months. Also, this engine isn't tuned to the max by AMG, the tune is pretty conservative. There have been many people with the M276 engine running the 480 horsepower 520 pound feet tune (me included) that have faced zero issues for thousands of miles.

Given your statement about running a tune, would you go to Eurotune to get it done with the Stage 1 offering? Is it really that much more the car is opened up? Also will they remove the 130 MPH limit?

Idk who Eurotune is but I’m with Eurocharged and they’re one of the most reputable tuning companies. They even offer a one year warranty on your car’s powertrain, so it lets you know they know how to tune things safely. The speed limiter is also removed, but I would request it just in case. You can also get pops/bangs if you want. Like I said, the power upgrade is enormous, you won’t recognize the car after you’ve done the tune and you won’t ever go back to the stock file. Your 0-60 would be around 3.8-4.0. I was able to get 4.2 on my car but I don’t have sport+, and the 43 cars have their transmissions tuned by AMG for faster shifts, so it’s safe to say you can easily achieve 3.9.

Would you buy the handheld tuner to take home with you, so you can always have the ability to push it back in to stock before service with MB and then reload it after you get the car back home? I'm thinking if im going to pay the money I would want to be able to have something that I own, with my F250 I own the tune and the loader that loads it and can switch it back at will without paying the tuning shop to make the change? Do you own a handheld?

Yes, I have the handheld. It takes 6 minutes to switch between files.

Yes. But I wouldn't spend $3k on turbos if you're letting the car go in two years, but it is up to you. I think you'll be plenty satisfied with the stage 1 tune itself. You can look at C43 stage 1/stage 2 on Yt for a perspective.

Is the C43 putting out the same HP stock or is it de-rated to some degree? I will follow your lead and do the tune and see where it goes? Can they hit 500 on the dyno with tuning alone? My 2010 E63 had 507 so if I could hit that 500 mark would be sweet! Also after the time how much MPG did you loose? I routinely drive 250 miles each way, not that it’s big concern just another curiosity question?

The E43 has slightly larger turbos than the C43. The E43 puts out 396HP in comparison to the C43's 362. They can hit 500 on the dyno but that's if you go stage 2, assuming we're talking to the crank, and not WHP. My MPG stayed the same. The MPG will stay the same BUT you will want to step on it more in sport+, so you'll most likely see a reduction in MPG. But if you drive it in eco/comfort like a normal person and gears are changing at like 1800rpm like a conservative driver, you won't see a drop in MPG.

Well,

I hope you have a great New Years, I will jump on here sometime after the first and post the results. I will get the Dyno sheets etc and scan them into the forum as PDF attachments. I'm super curious now as to how it will react!

Ok,

So I have some news for the group regarding the tune. I called my local Eurocharged shop this morning and talked with the guy who answered the phone and he was a very nice guy and also very straight forward and honest with me which I appreciate! I explained to him that I regularly drive the car 250 miles each way to work and that it is a 2018 with 14,000 or so miles on it. I told him that reliablity was the 1st priority for me and then he explained to me that if that was the case there are some factors that I should consider before tuning the car that could play into my reliablity factors.

1. He told me if the CPC module is not replaced with a new one and then tuned, that the car would go into limp mode at some point, he said not IF but WHEN. The cost for a replacement tuned module is $2500 on top of the tune for $1300 + 299 for the loader to keep with me.
2. The guys said, "if we tune the car, without doing anyting with the CPC module, it will give you issues." He said if your gonna tune the car and want it to be done right and reliable then you have to do both, otherwise I would leave it alone if you depend on the reliablity of the car.
3. So now I am at a crossroads, he also said the top speed limiter would likely not be increased also which is a big factor for me as currently the car sits locked at 130 MPH WHICH sucks! The CPC module replacement and tune is required to lift that restriction as well.
4. Sure seems like a lot of cash for an additional reliable 90 - 100 HP.

It sure would be nice if we did have someone who has tuned an 18 E43 that could chime in as to what they experienced, I am slightly more gunshy now to the process as again, I need the car to be reliable. We also discussed a mild tune on the car which would likely not experience as many limp mode instances, but hey if your gonna do it, why pay for a little bit!

Any comments are welcome here!

Yeah, the newer Mercedes have to get the CPC module tuned/replaced. I personally would just check out C43 reviews on YouTube as it's the same engine.
