The Aluminum trim can certainly be painted. As it is Aluminum (I think) there would probably be a different prep that needs to happen prior to painting. One issue I see with painting any trim, is that most of the car will have to be masked and protected from overspray, so that seems like it could add to the cost of painting. I'm no painter, so hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will see this and chime in.

As far as pricing the entire night package trim....that can be done at any of the online vendors. Some will be cheaper than others, but from my recent shopping experience it looks like the ENTIRE night package (minus the NIKE Swoosh, that I can't find) would be around $3200, not including shipping.

Hold Up!""

I have a full set of the black trim I ought but never got around to installing for my 18. I think it's about 9 or ten pieces. It was quite expensive but it's currently sitting around doing nothing, so..
PM me, we'll chat...

So the same package that can be had for $750 by ticking a box costs >$3000 after the fact? That’s wild.

Yep. I mean nobody said these cars were inexpensive, but the difference in cost to add something after the fact is quite substantial.

I just asked my dealer parts counter today about replacing the aluminum around the windows with black trim, and they said it can't be done lol. I'm guessing they either don't want to do it or can't handle ordering the parts without my VIN showing the night package like mentioned above with the online parts dealer. Looking up the parts the window trim seems all available for about $600, I may just have to get brave and try to pull mine off. The aluminum pieces flex around a bit when pressed on so I'm guessing they snap in one way or another, I just need to figure it out without kinking or damaging anything. Does anyone have pics of the loose pieces that can help me determine how they attach?

I’ve got the night package but I had the chrome strips on the door handles and tailgate wrapped in matte film to have them match the satin finish metal of the grille “wings”. It maintains a little splash of contrast around the belt line of the car. Just another option

That’s the same piece I’d like too. Can I ask where you’re ordering that from? $600 is definitely not bad for the window trim.

I just googled Mercedes parts and came across https://www.mercedesbenzpartscenter.com/ They are under Body/ Exterior front door trim and rear door trim, two pieces per door. My rough math was a little off though, its $724 for all 8 pieces of window trim plus $24 shipping. Still worth it in my book as long as I can get the old stuff off without hurting anything.

I certainly am not brave enough to try it! Maybe if I had an instructional video with our precise Vehicle, then I’d give it a go, but yeah, nope.

I do look forward to hearing about your experience. If it is as simple as “gently” prying them off, then maybe, just maybe I’ll give it a whirl.

Congrats on your pickup beautiful ride! Can you please share some interior pics?

How was your experience in the E63 as a long distance highway cruiser? Some in various posts complained of an overly harsh / noisy ride - did you find that to be the case taking the car long distance?

Thank you sir! I'll try and get some interior pictures tomorrow when she comes out for a bath. My experience with her as a long distance cruiser was great! I've never had the chance to drive cross country and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. It was a somewhat rushed trip, as I had to be back for other obligations, but it was still worth it in my book.

The BAD:
As far as harsh and or noisy ride...yes I did experience those conditions with the wagon. Now I understand that she's a heavy girl, has large diameter wheels, and a low tire aspect ratio, but I had hoped for an altogether smoother ride. Pot holes, bridge transitions, and other road variances can present jarring impacts that are obvious to you as the driver, but oddly enough didn't seem to be "too bad" in my wife's opinion. When driving over rough pavement the noise is quite noticeable (I even have the acoustic package), but didn't detract too much from conversations.

The GOOD:
On smooth pavement (which most of the drive was) this wagon just treats you so well. Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, multi-contour massage seats, amazing sound system, etc....this girl just appeals to all the senses. Given her plus sized figure, she feels so much smaller than she is. Steering is firm, but not overly, and when you feel the need to let her stretch her legs...........................ugh!!! The exhaust screams, the steering tightens up, you're pushed back in your seat and those around you are now leagues behind you! I wish I could explain better, but the good far outweighs the bad.

If you spend all day in S+, then you will likely feel the harshness you described, but it's pretty smooth in comfort mode. On the awful roads in Los Angeles, while in comfort mode, I found the ride in the 2021 (on Pirellis, no less) to be substantially better than the 2018-2020 and perfectly comfortable for daily driving, though an old Cadillac, it is not.

My advice for the 2018 would be to drive in comfort mode when puttering around town or in areas you know to the surfaces to be sub-par and only crank it up when you need the oomph or are having some fun... it really is remarkable how different the car behaves depending on which mode (or suspension/engine setting combination) you're in.

I would also recommend using the tire pressures on the sticker on the gas cap, not the numbers on the door jam. The door has you inflate them to a point just before they explode and they ride like rocks. Tires also make a big difference. The OEM Pilotsports that came on mine are in climate storage with 5k miles on them, replaced with some Bridgestone Potenza RE980as'. There aren't a lot of "comfort tuners" but if the 2020/21's are any indication, there is a lot of unused range in the adjustability of the suspension that could be harnessed with a suspension "tune". Short of that, running the more reasonable pressures of the gas cap sticker and softer rubber makes a big difference on their own.

99% of the ride from the left coast to the right coast was in comfort mode.

I'll certainly take a look and see what pressures I'm running right now. As winter approaches, I will hopefully be sourcing a set of the OEM 19" wheels with some "taller" tires, so that should produce an improved ride quality.
