2022 E53

Has anyone actually had a 2021 or 2022 E53 delivered? I ordered one last month with an "expected, maybe" delivery date of June 2022. I'd like to hear what they thought of it. I was able to test drive a 2020 E53 a while back and the car road like a truck. It handled great but I couldn't see myself using it as a daily driver and certainly not for long trips. I'm sure the runflats had something to do with that but I think the suspension was a bit stiff as well. I read that AMG loosened up the suspension for 2021 and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it?

TIA,
Joe

Congrats on your E53.

Don't personally have an E53 but I recommend test driving another E53 but this time with different wheel options and most importantly a 2021 and above. The 2020 E-Class you test drove is a most likely a pre-facelift (if you live in North America) and it is a known fact that the facelift E63 suspension is less stiff compared to pre-facelift E63, I am hoping they tuned the suspension of the E53 as well for the facelift just like the E63 to make it less stiff. I also want you to see the facelift in person, just incase you don't like the changes the facelift brings.

Good luck with your order!

I had a 2019 E53 coupe with the 20” wheels and tires (Pirelli run flats). The ride was quite harsh even in comfort mode, and jarring over potholes. My winter wheels were 19” Pilot Alpins and the ride quality difference was night and day. I replaced the Pirellis with non run flat Pilot Sport 4s and the quality was somewhere in between. I have a 2022 E53 Cabriolet on a boat right now, should be taking possession in about a month optioned with the same 20” wheels. Not sure what tires I’ll get this time. Will know soon if it rides any different.

2021 E53 Coupe
As the proud owner of a ‘21 E53 coupe, I can say it makes a wonderful daily driver. I have the 20” run flats and the only time I even notice them any more is on really bad roads. As for long trips, it’s a dream. It’s a sports setup, so it’s going to be stiffer than a family sedan, but it is not overly harsh IMHO. If it is too harsh for you I would suggest an E450.

Thank you for the two of you for sharing your experience. OP, as you can tell from the two experiences shared in the posts above me, the pre-facelift and face-lift suspension tuning and damping is very different. Therefore, you should consider test driving the E53 facelift (as you only test driven a pre-facelift). Just as I expected because there was a huge improvement in ride quality on the E63 facelift vs the E63 pre-facelift. I just wasn't sure the face-lift E53 got some sort of improvement too but it certainly looks like it.
Run-flats certainly doesn't do any favours for ride quality, but suspension tuning is important as well.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I believe the 2021/2022 E53 did get the modified (softened) suspension. At least that's what all the reviews have said. I was waiting to drive one before I ordered mine but I've been unable to find any within 500 miles. Well, I did find one 120 miles away but it had been special ordered by a customer and they don't allow test drives on sold vehicles. I plan on buying a second set of rims and mounting non-run flats when, If, mine ever comes in. The new lockdown in Germany will probably delay it even further.

Another question I have is related to getting non-runflats for the car. How is everyone handling the flat tire issue? I'd rather not have to use one of the fix-a-flat cans. I did that in the past on another vehicle and even though the can said TPMS safe, it was Not. Does anyone know if an aftermarket company produces a replacement trunk liner that accepts a spare tire? I wish Mercedes would follow BMW and offer that as an option.

Thanks
