Ordering '22 E53 sedan - Performance Exhaust a must?
Greetings everyone. I'm finally returning to MBWorld and ordering a 2022 E53 AMG sedan. these cars have changed a lot in the last 10 years! I used to drive a 2010 C63. I wanted something larger and more comfortable as a daily driver. E53 seems to be a good fit.
So the fake exhaust thing is what took some getting used to. I've been absent the last 10 years and this seems to have become a trend. I have 3 questions about the performance exhaust option I'm hoping this community can answer.
(1) Do the 4 shiny exhaust tips have 4 separate exhaust pipes behind them? I know they are not connected. The reason I ask is because I inspected a car with the standard exhaust at the dealership and it appears that the two exhaust tips on each side have only one centered exhaust pipe behind them on each side. So basically 2 exhaust pipes total feeding fumes into 4 exhaust tips.
(2) With the exhaust valves closed, is the sound level comparable to the standard exhaust in comfort mode? Or is the quietest setting for the performance exhaust still louder than the stock exhaust. Sometimes, I just want to have a conversation with a passenger, or simply listen to some music without blasting it. I've driven cars in the past where the exhaust prevents you from enjoying either. Would appreciate thoughts on this.
(3) Is the performance exhaust option a must have? Just wondering what you would do if you had to do it over again.
Thanks!

2- The E 53 has a very quiet exhaust in comfort mode. Some people thought it was too quiet for an AMG. Which is why the emotion start mode was added.
2- Absolutely, it's a must. If you want a quiet car drive an E 450. AMG's are about sound and feeling.

To add to the previous post, if you want a quiet car then you should option the performance exhaust, this might sound contradicting but please hear me out. The car is quieter with the valves closed on the performance exhaust compared to one without a performance exhaust.

1- No there are only single exhaust outlets behind the tips.

Yes, no issues at all even if you leave it closed most of the time. Another point about those valves, they are actually not fully opened all the time even if you have the performance exhaust set to open.

Understandable, there is a reason why people want to option acoustic comfort in an E 63s as well. AMG is all about dual personality, it can be a quiet cruiser or a completely wild beast.

Short answer to your question, yes. It is an absolute must. If nothing else, when it comes time to sell your car you will have a tough time without the AMG Performance Exhaust System.
I'm sitting at my desk right next to one. If there are any questions or specific photos you would like, let me know.

I'm confused by this factory photo of the Performance Exhaust system that makes the exhaust tips appear more streamlined with the actual exhaust pipes behind them. Also appears to have another pipe on the other side, which I find confusing. Are there more photos of the system available anywhere? I searched but can't find any.

I may be tainted coming from a Wrangler JLUR, but in Comfort it is really quiet inside. Very easy for me to have a conversation even with the music on. That was impossible in my Rubicon. There is definitely a “ sound” even when the PE is in closed mode. In active mode it is better, as in has more presence, but still not nearly as loud as a Mustang GT or Camaro. The burbling and farts are fun, but after a while I found them to sound a bit to artificial. I wish I could have the louder with out the fake farts as I don’t think they “go with” this car. Had a 2013 Corvette w/ 427 and I loved that exhaust. This one is just OK. I have never heard a E63 exhaust so can’t compare.
