If the head bolts are torque-to-yield (which is likely), then they need replacing when they are removed as part of any service. If they are not torque-to-yield, then they only need changing if they are somehow damaged.
Did they remove the heads while performing some sort of service?

Yes, not again? Are these cylinder head bolts? My 2009 SL63 had these go (out of warranty). First symptom was loss of coolant. Fortunately, cylinders were not scored and damaged. MB refused to cover - but in the end they actually did (about $6500 CAD).
This is a very true and real problem. Met another guy by chance who had the same thing happen - but his motor blew out.
If it’s happening again with AMGs then MB has a serious problem. Last time, they managed to hide it and avoid an embarrassing public recall. I don’t think they should get away with it again.

I’ve been in the M177 platform since the early days (W205 C63s) till now and have not even once heard of any headbolt issues on these motors. So this leads me to believe this is a one of case, fingers crossed.
