We had ordered a 2022 with the dealer telling us the wait was 4-6 months. After 4 months the wait became 12 months. Luckily we found a used 2021 and were able to get our initial deposit back. Our new to us vehicle was purchased out of state from a state that did not require a front license plate - the original bracket was in the trunk. I found a couple older threads with 2-3 options for no drill but was wondering if anybody might know of any others besides Sly, Sto N Sho, or Craven? With our grill the Sly install would be off center, my wife does not like the placement of the Craven and we're waiting to hear back from Sto N Sho to see if they have a bracket that will fit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There are no good options unfortunately, I just drive mine without one. If I am forced to do something I will, but not until then.

 

Not sure how strict your state is but I haven’t driven with a front plate on any of my vehicles for about 8 years now and haven’t really had any issues with getting stopped.

 

Dicky D and utsteve98, what states are you in? I've been in touch with STO N SHO, and they are working on fitment for MY 2021. Will post when it's available.

 

I'm in Texas and have to get an inspection before I can register the vehicle so will have to come up with something. I reached out to STO N SHO last night as I did not see a model to fit the 2021. saltydog66 did they have an estimated ETA as from what I have seen they may be the best option.

No time line yet but here is the reply from Mashell at STO N SHO:

"I followed up with Mike and Steve and they are working with a customer on a custom fitment for E63S wagon. It did require a new front plate and some different spacers. Once they have the final bracket I can definitely let you know."

 

My "electronics modifications" person, installed a remote motorized plate retractor, that works just fine. I will see if I can get a name & model for you. I've had the car for 3 1/2 years, and the only time I got stopped for no front plate, I apologized, and said I just washed the car, and forgot to put the plate back up. I hit the remote button, and the plate came up, the officer thanked me, and said it was the best thing he ever saw for a plate. He apologized for stopping me, and said he was under pressure to ticket for no front plate, and I made his day!

Yeah, I agree with the above that there are really no good solutions. Pretty much all options really look like shiit. I think having it to the side looks awful no matter what. I'm in California and I always opted for no license plate if it required drilling into the bumper. I've had a front license plate on my two Audis before my AMG. They had license brackets that were integrated into the grill and the mounting points were already there from the factory. I put it on with the first Audi after getting a fix-it ticket in San Francisco, and put it on the second Audi from the beginning. I did European Delivery with my C63 and had to have a license plate in Europe, but the VPC restored the front bumper when the car arrived in the US, so I wasn't gonna drill holes again.

I have not had a single issue in the last three years, and in total I've had no front license plate for about 11 years. I never got pulled over. The fix-it ticket I got was when the car was parked in the financial district on the street while I was attending a performance. I rarely go into the city these days and I only drive my car if I can park in a covered garage away from the streets. Most of the time we take the wife's car which is smaller and much easier to park anyway and has a front license plate.

If I get another fix-it ticket, my plan is to get one of those toeing eye holders, get the ticket signed off, and then remove it again.

BTW, in California you can have a license plate wrap now, but on most AMGs there's no big enough area for it to fit, but otherwise I would get the black/yellow wrap to match my rear plates and just stick it on the bumper. My car is black, so the black license plate blends in and the yellow font complements the yellow stitching and accents of the interior.
