Trading 2019 E63 for 2016 GTS? Is it worth it?

Hello Everyone,

I’ve had my 2019 W213 for nearly 2 years. Been daily driving it every day and it’s amazing. I love it.

However, circumstances have now changed and I don’t need to commute anymore. So the E63 is now a weekend toy/car that gets driven when I’m not working. Residuals are still okay at the moment but for some extra cash I could hop into a 2016 GTS.

I think this would make a better non-daily/weekend/social car if I don’t need four doors and extra seats.

But, I am addicted to that straight line AWD power the E63 has. Would I miss it? I’ve heard the GTS doesn’t ‘feel’ as nippy on the road but will feel more special. The interior is much older than the 2019 E63 and so is that awful infotainment system. The E63 has Apple CarPlay. GTS doesn’t.

Just wondering if anyone could chime in with their thoughts?

Thank you.

tldr; 2019 E63 owner wants to swap to 2016 GTS but worried that power and traction won’t be as good and it won’t ‘feel’ as fast as the E63.

I won’t do it. Just me. For one, I think the gts would be even harsher in the overall ride. I have acquaintance who bought and sold his after just one year of use for that main reason.

This would be a weekend, social ‘toy’ that I use to maybe do some errands and visiting family and friends etc. I don’t need four doors or boot space anymore as won’t be daily driving it.

I just have an itch at the moment and want something a bit more special. I love the E63 and the newer tech that comes with it and I’d be trading that for less tech, same engine but in a different guise. As I mentioned on another thread, I guess I’m trying to rationalise if the trade in plus the extra cash is worth the ‘special’ feeling the GTS would give….

Can you take one for test drive at the dealer for at least 1 hour? This will give you some early impression on how it drives and you can decide afterwards on what to do next.

btw, my acquaintance was also using the gts for weekends purpose.

2021 AMG E63s Wagon
Would only trade my AMG Wagon for a 2020 AMG S63 Coupe...that beauty is like having Hot Babe Abs secured in the Garage IMHO.

Don’t do it you will regret it. The GTS is a great car but you will definitely miss the straight line speed and AWD launch of the E63s.

The only GT series I would consider replacing my E63s with is a 2020+ GTC or GTR.

Clearly a personal choice/preference. I would not consider trading my E63s for a GT. I don't need four doors either, and , the car is a weekend ride, not a daily driver. The GT is a great car for sure, but, going back in model years and tech, along with a few more years wear and tear doesn't seem like a good move to me. If it works for you and that is what you want, go for it. Having a little extra cash wouldn't sweeten the deal for me. There is no doubt I would miss the overall experience of the E63s. Just enough comfort and luxury and the performance is amazing for a sedan that looks like an old farts car.

After taking the E63 out for a spin I agree with you I think. Also I wouldn’t have any extra cash, I’d have to put the extra cash in. Not sounding like such a good deal now that I’ve slept on it

I misunderstood the cash part. Definitely wouldn't buy an older model that required more cash. The only way that I would part with mine is if the 2023 had the same V8, an extra 300HP of electric boost, and, all the options were available. Obviously, that isn't happening so "Flash" will be with me for a long time.
