Engine misfire and CEL HELP please
I drove my car to my work place parking lot what was close and parked it. 1 hour later i tried to turn the car on and did a little drive in the parking lot and the car did not shake anymore and only the CEL was on the dashboard but not flashing anymore.
Im gonna take it to the mercedes dealership parking lot in the evening and let them check it this week.
Does anyone have any idea what could the causes be so i could be more informed when i talk with the dealership.
All the best!
If it happens again, turn the car off when safe and restart it - like at the next stoplight. That should take it out of limp mode.
If you don't have a code reader, they are a good investment and you don't have to pay big bucks - $50 to $70 will get you something that will read everything you're ever likely to want to see.
When the dealer looks at your car they should be able to see whether or not you have the firmware update that largely eliminates the CELs.
I had a problem with my car for a while and they ran a butt load of tests on it and swapped around injectors and plug packs and this and that under the direction of Mercedes in Germany. At the end of the day nothing was replaced but the problem was largely gone. Later they came up with the firmware update.
The general consensus was that it was a tolerance stack up issue where the emissions limits were set too light and the motor was tripping the CEL. Some noted the problem was more prevalent when the winter gas formulations hit the gas stations.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Im gonna talk with my workshop today.
yesterday I got on it a bit, light started to blink and motor started running rough. Shut it off, ran fine again but light stayed on. Just drove home from work and car ran fine til I got on it again, started to run rough, shut it off, runs normal again but light is still on. Taking it to a workshop on Monday to see what it might be but I’m a bit worried about it repeating itself …

good luck
BMW basically replaces your coils (and plugs) around 20k miles for the Ms even before you get limp modes with the slightest change in vehicle behaviour
