As you can tell by the photo, a large portion of the carbon piece has a lovely yellow hue to it. I've seen this happen on low quality carbon pieces that I've purchased off of eBay in the past for other vehicles. However, I've personally never seen this happen to any of the MB factory carbon pieces. I'd prefer not to spend $1600 on a replacement if the same thing is going to happen with exposure to heat and sunlight. FYI this engine cover (A1770101203) is on a 2018.
Please point me in the right direction if you know of an existing post touching on this issue, I did a quick search prior to posting this, but there's always a possibility I missed something. Thanks!
If you look at this pic my take was it was picking up a reflection of orange somewhere from under the hood with all of the lights. I could be wrong as I've never seen that before. I have that exact cover on my 22 GLE and had one on my AMG GTR also. I've never heard of anyone having an issue.

That's funny, that was my exact thought when I first looked through the photos online! So I had
Phillips confirm and send me additional photos, unfortunately it's yellowed. We'll see how bad it really is when I get it in the garage in a couple days. I'll upload an update if need be...
Regardless, I appreciate your response! As you stated, I also haven't known any owners to report any similar issues.
Yes, this is very common on cars equipped with the carbon fiber engine cover. It’s simply too hot to have sitting right next to turbos, and the clearcoat eventually turns yellow. Every single used one I’ve looked at with the carbon fiber engine cover had some sort of yellowing going on near the turbos.
Thanks JTS97Z28 and Cylinder Head for the replies! I'm going to buy the gloss black cover and throw it on there. It'll never fade and it's a lot cheaper to replace than the carbon that's for sure.
My CLS has the CF engine cover and I've never seen this happen....car is from 2012. I don't think it's normal, but unfortunately without getting a new one I don't see a wat around it. What do you think you'll do?

Check out the URL that BenzBell posted earlier in the thread for more photos. It's designo orange metallic (paint code 020), special ordered through DM program.
I only have 7k miles on my 22 GLE 63 and so no issues. I put 14k miles on my AMG GTR and the same. Maybe it's due to extreme heat from tracking or driving a car hard because I've seen zero instances of this and the first time seeing it mentioned on the board.

I think extreme heat more than likely it's the culprit here. Previous owner is from Dubai, so maybe the combination of higher than normal air temps and the heat generated by the engine caused the discoloration.
The lack of reported instances makes me wonder if it's an issue specific to early 2018 models.

I guess it's possible with the previous owner living there. However, the carfax only shows service records in California, not sure if it would show shipping info if it had traveled back and forth.

M157 turbos are near the bottom sides of the motor, well away from the engine cover. M177 turbos are in the V, sending the full heat of the sun right into that carbon fiber.

Lol, maybe i'll use the carbon piece as a frying pan after a spirited drive this Summer.
