Hey guys,
Just chiming in since my 2018 E63 AMG-s has now had the dreaded RMS leak at about 55k miles. I took her in for the transmission service after the spark plug service and they found oil.
Now for the good news, my Veritas warranty is fully covering the RMS leak as well as replacing the oil vapor separators!!!
Car has been in the shop for about 2 n half weeks waiting on parts which just arrived today.
Let this be another cautionary lesson for anyone considering an E63 AMG-s, buy the extended warranty or be prepared to drop 8-10k on a RMS leak repair.
I will say that I started using launch control and launching the car often in the months prior to the RMS leak being detected, coincidence? Possibly.
All that being said, still top 2 sedan you could ever buy and it’s not #2!!!

Is there any kind of a common thread here for failure? I have 33K on my 2019 S63 and I love the car but feel like I am driving around carrying a hand grenade. It is garage parked every night and not really exposed to any extreme temps here in the PNW. I typically drive it for extended periods of time but it is also my daily driver. Want the kit when it becomes available but hope it is a DIY thing as I do most of my own wrenching. Are there any sensors that offer crankcase pressure data?

They’ve been developing this fix for a few months with a handful of their dealers having it in their own 213’s. Just scroll earlier within this thread…

Any idea on when this kit will be available for the S63. Would like to install it on my 2019 if possible. Happy to be a test mule if needed.

What plan did you have from Veritas? And what did you pay for the plan?

Correct, I have a G63, doesnt have launch control and I dont launch it at all, ever. My wife drives it, and still had the issue.
If anything I would think possibly driving harder could be something that prolongs the life of the RMS. Have no evidence or anything to base that off. But logic would tell me as the oil pressure increases or internal pressures increase, that could in theory help keep the OVS from clogging up, maybe the pressure would help clear a blockage. IDK that to be true, or even plausible though.
I would also caution the after market catch can if you still have factory warranty or even an aftermarket warranty... While I think this would be a great option if it works, I could see both MB and aftermarket warranty providers voiding any existing warranty there could be. Which in this scenario would be asinine. The catch can kit would actually help them pay out LESS in warranty claims but they would im sure LOVE to void a warranty any chance they get. So use caution, and if youre under warranty in any capacity, just let them pay to continue to replace it all every time. Out of warranty? the kit is probably a great option.

@Highline-Autos.com I am in Seattle and looking at buying and e63 site unseen from CT. It seems like you guys have the most experience with warranties that would cover the separators and the RMS. I am wondering the cost of coverage before I buy the car. Don't want to be stuck with this issue down the road. Can you provide any insight? It's a 2018 with 46k miles.

Would you be willing to post a copy of your service invoice with your personal information redacted? This helps owners deal with service advisors to get warranty coverage. Typically there is a code the shop charges to so they receive compensation from MB.

Since you are all w213 owners. I am going to go ahead and get the car despite the slight rms leak. One of the auto shippers is concerned about ground clearance on the open trailer. I think he may be trying to upsell. Any of you have any experience with this?

Great news, hopefully it means a silent MB campaign that can benefit future affected owners.

There's a button (on the lower left dash closest to the steering column on a 2018) that will lift the suspension an inch. Of course getting them to actually press it is something else ...

RMS failure and Tune
I’m looking at buying a 2020 E63s that has a stage 1 tune and cat-less down pipes. I found the shop that did the tune. I’m going to look carefully for the RMS leak and perhaps take to a MB dealer for a PPI. It’s for sale at a non MB dealer. The car still has a few months of factory warranty left.
Will the tune exclude the car from having an RMS leak covered under factory warranty? Will the tune void an extended warranty I may buy to prepare for the RMS leak (veritas or fidelity or other)?

well crap…but I figured that was the case. I checked with MB on the phone to see if VIN was flagged for any warranty void kind of issue and it’s not currently. I’m guessing a dealer would check for a tune before repairing a RMS leak under warranty. Not sure the car even has the issue but seems like I need to be prepared to fix it one way or the other if I get into a used E63s.
