exactly.
Just tell the dealer ahead of time. or you can consult with the dealer as to what color is best suited for this investigation.
For mine, dealer used a 'blood' red color. Not sure it means this is the best color or not ?
don't use food dye color though. hehe.
You probably can buy that in your local Auto parts store. If not, ask the dealer or buy from Amazon. It is in a small bottle.

go fast grocery getter wagon
called dealer yesterday to try to determine which direction/color to go, Service Advisor checked with tech and I was told DO NOT USE any dye as they have their own way/chemical addition to determine if the leak is due to a faulty RMS. Apparently they clean the car up underneath real well, pour this stuff in (wish I'd have written down what he told me) take it for a decent drive and apparently that'll indicate whether the leak is due to RMS or not . . . is this just 'dealer talk' or is this a legitimate reason?
I am just relaying on how my dealer has approached my issue by using this color dye test.

Wow. You dodged a bullet indeed ❤️
They are doing front pads and sensors only ? Front rotors are crazy expensive if you have to replace.

once again I'm happy to be a part of a group of passionate individuals sharing their experiences, frustrations etc . . . I would have never found a reasonable resolve without it . . . now I have to figure out how to pay for the brake job . . .

just a quick update if anybody is curious: Took car to local dealer yesterday, they did their testing process today and I just got off the phone with the service guy where I got the bad and the good news . . . the bad news is the RMS is indeed leaking and the oil/air separators are backordered so I'd have to wait for them before repair can be completed, the good news is apparently I got an extended warranty when I purchased the car in '19 . . . embarrassed to admit but I completely forgot about that little fact so the repair would be covered in full! All I have to do is pay for the front brakes and have them do a B service while car is there as the previous, independent shop I took the car to didn't quite do all they were supposed to . . . right now I'm doing a tiny little happy dance in my living room
well, brakes & a new windshield as just last weekend, driving back from a getaway, a big rock hit the lower left corner and pretty much destroyed it . . . but I'm not complaining as thats covered by insurance! Did I mention the happy dance?

Pads, rotors caliper bolts & new sensors . . . front brakes are @ 3mm needing to be done now . . . rears are @ 5mm so I can wait a tad longer on them . . . they certainly are not inexpensive and I keep going back and forth between factory & aftermarket but I don't have a decent shop around here that I would trust with the work so likely will be going the factory replacement route . . .

The fact that the oil separators are on backorder could be an Indication that the demand for these parts is exceeding repair projections. I wonder if the parts are also being re-engineered to eliminate the failure points. I still haven't seen and reports in this forum about model years of 2020 and beyond.

Insight into this can be gained if someone has access to the parts catalog which shows revision history. Revisions suggest MB knows there is a problem and is making changes. This was the case for the well-known and widespread oil-in-harness situation with cam sensors and cam magnets.

On mine ... dealer replaced the right & left air/oil separator with this following part #
Left - 177-078-54-00 mb online part sites say this replaces 177-078-14-19 and 177-078-30-00
Right - 177-078-55-00 mb online part sites say this replaces 177-078-15-19 and 177-078-31-00
So, the question is are those parts on mine now have made some sort of design or functional changes ??

Part number change means “something” about the part has changed. Seems like MB is going down this road given the changes noted above.
Agree with preemptively replacing separators with the latest part number, if what is on the car is not the latest.
