Ceramics on interior?

Ceramic coating for interior? My old school says just on hard stuff like the carbon maybe. My detailer wants to do everything, even the carpet.

Doesn’t leather need to breath?! Is ceramics new voodoo or will it **** things up?

Im inclined to just condition the leather bits, no ceramic. Am I wrong?

I guess there’s some merit to it if you’re willing to pay for the prep and application. I applied gyeon leather coating to 2 cars and it was easy enough but if you keep up with vacuuming and damp microfiber around the interior every wash it’s probably not necessary unless car is outside in the sun all the time. A good hack is using some waterless wash like ONR in the interior. Ceramic in detailing is an overused term at this point

He’s not pushing it said I can pass however with family and almost 200k on my old E63 he said it’s not a bad idea.

my MAIN concern is not understanding all the ins and outs of ceramic coating and wrecking the leather with this https://iglcoatings.com/products/ecocoat-leather wishing we had left it alone.

“Wrecking” meaning long term it dries or cracks and I can’t condition it normally because the ceramic prevents it

Ceramic coating the leather is not like paint where you’re chasing high spots and panicking you missed a spot. I did a GTI and 911 interior with the gyeon stuff. It was easy as any conditioner. The only difference is a thorough cleaning beforehand to make sure the coating is bonding to the leather or surface and not any dirt or film. If you’re talking a DD with 200k on the clock the interior has to be pretty worn and myself, I’d just get a good conditioner.

Yeah. Just use leather cleaner & conditioner every 4 months or so should be enough.

Sounds like a great idea, particularly on all that glossy plastic carbon fiber trim. Gives me anxiety.

I guess in the case of if leaving car outside in the sun all the time a good quality tint might be enough. as for the ceramic coating, I wonder if there will be a smell or off-gas if so will it be a health concern?
