Good luck and enjoy the thrill of the chase ! I just went through this to get my E63S and I have been reminded how exciting it can be. Let us know how it goes.

Congrats for being the first person I've ever heard of shopping an Accord against a E450/E43.

Good luck dude!

lolol… I know!. Really the practical and natural choice for a 4th car house is the Accord or Camry, quite honestly. But, am trying to squeeze in something more fun to drive that’s still within the same price range of a brand new or 2023/2022 Accord Hybrid Touring. The previous Accord had served us, my family members and parents over the years for so many long trips, clean and dirty ones, lasting 15 years and 271K miles without really any major maintenance tickets. It was a beast. The only big ticket item was a new hybrid battery at around 200K miles… am impressed. Now, if we get the E-class as the 4th house car, I doubt it will last that long but the fact we do not drive it that often now as it is not a daily drive for anyone I am hopping that would help. Will see how it goes, I’ll post here, likely no sooner than end of the month before I settle on something I find.

Hey, I like Japanese cars too - cannot give up my 2005 Lexus after all these years. But do not sell MB short - see some really good looking examples of 124 body style E classes around on the road still after all these years.

I know!
I kept my 2002 Lexus LS 430 all the way from 2004 to 2021, sold with 250K miles, ZERO service cost except lower engine gasket (+oil/brakes/rotors). Factory timing built and shock absorbers..

Photo before it was sold after almost ~19yrs of service and 250K miles.

Those are indeed the old 124 body style E classes - there's a really nice one in my neighborhood but a sedan, unlike the coupe in the link. Always parked right by the owners Porsche Macan; I guess the old guy cannot give up his W124 E Class. Here's to our modern day W213s/212s - may they still be celebrated as a type of MB E-class classic in 2040. When everything will be electric or powered by little 4 pot engines with electric assist.

I have a 2021 Accord sport 2.0T (third car) and I think it’s every bit as much of a drivers car as my 2021 E63s wagon and I’ll keep saying that till I’m blue in the face. I don’t think there is a better car for less than $40k and I’d venture it’s every bit as good if not better than its four cylinder luxury counterparts made by BMW or Mercedes. It’s truly an exceptional car and punches well above its weight. From its practicality (huge trunk and 41 inches of rear leg room) to its incredibly smooth transmission to its deceptively powerful motor, it’s such a great car. No matter what primary car I will own, I likely will own an Accord as a third car going forward.

I haven't read any of the replies to this thread (sorry) but I just needed to chime in that the last few years of Honda Accords, with the right wheels and trim, are one of the better looking cars on the road. Lots of questionably designed expensive new sedans are invading our streets, and the Accord has better a presence then 80% of them. There was a stick offered until just a year or two ago as well, right?

I would go 2022 Accord...but get weird with it by slapping on a Comma AI https://www.comma.ai/shop/comma-three

I am not knocking the W213, it is a really excellent vehicle. But if Accord is in the back of your head, I like the idea of just doing that and then keeping your eyes peeled for something that really excites you...and that could be a W213 AMG at some point...one with perfect history, your perfect spec, etc. You won't have much friction cost to swap into it from an Accord.

The E 450 is a great option actually : ) but come to think of it, for the specific use you have with this vehicle, the Accord makes the most sense, I mean think someone already mentioned, that column shifter is also something to get used to and so is the windshield wiper on the left side.

Thoughts on Mazda then, Mazda is known for being a driver's car too in the segment Accord competes on. Problem is Mazda speed is gone and not really coming back.

I too think OP should just get a Accord given their needs. They already crossed off Mazda I guess due to lack of experience with the brand.

Doesn't it still come with a manual option as well?

This vehicle has been used as a bonus car, for the family/daughter/son, parents, guests and dirty tasks/trips/parks. It’s too old now that no one wants to drive it anymore. Am thinking of upgrading it to a better family vehicle, of the same size or slightly larger without spending too much for a new vehicle.

My wife thinks that another Accord (new) is the perfect replacement given that it won’t be my or her daily drive. However, am thinking of a pre-owned pre-facelift S-class or a W213 or the W213 AMG.

Questions:
1. I have good experience with S-class vehicles as I had a few in the past and currently driving the facelift W222 - S560, but need help with how the E-class compares to the S.
2. If I get the W213 AMG, this will be my very first ever AMG vehicle, which means I might also use it as a weekend vehicle and have fun with it; how reliable is it?
3. Pricing AMG vehicles is tough, what is the best resource to get fair market value of AMG vehicles other than KBB based on VIN and options?
4. If the answer to Q1 is the E-class, Should I pass on the AMG trip and get a regular W213?

Thanks.

Dont buy a four cylinder W213. Read the engine failure threads.

Buy a V6 or 4.0TT W213 and don’t expect the low cost of ownership experience of an Accord.

Ask for a Manheim report on a vehicle in your target and maybe a site member will help with recent actual wholesale prices.

I would also add, ask for a VMI.

Accord to W212 makes more sense at least on two levels, cost and feel.

Update:
Thanks everyone for the very useful and informative feedback/advise. I’ve finally settled on a decision and brought the replacement to our old accord home; which is another accord as a 3rd/4th multipurpose house car.

2021 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring - Platinum White Pearl, very low miles. To seal the deal, asked the dealer to switch wheels on this hybrid touring from another Sport edition accord and he agreed.

50 MPG average on a short highway and few city-miles trip on the way back home felt unreal. Thx again everyone.
