~7 MPG for the last 500 miles on a used car?
Hello there! I got a low mileage 2021 E63S. First oil change was done after 1 year and 600 miles. I got it 600 miles later, with 1200 total. Oil looks clean, car is in pristine condition, the only thing that concerns me is that the previous owner averaged 7 mpg for the last 600 miles. I assume it wasn't babied, and asked at least 4 different shops/mechanics, all of them said that this engine is bullet-proof.
So, should I be concerned about the fact that the car was probably always driven in Sport+ from the beginning of its life ?

Idling caused my mpg to drop faster than driving it aggressively in race mode
picking up kiddo from practices that kept running late and me waiting in the parking lot caused my mpg to drop like a tank in water

Could be a lot of idling like others said. I have a hard time getting to 8MPG running hard while tuned. Where was the car "born?"

7mpg comes from extended idling or hard WOT pulls one after the other.
The 4.0TT is not bulletproof. Fuel, ignition and vapor separator/RMS problems have been recently reported on units as new as MY21.

Probably sold it and went electric. With three gas guzzlers, I'm so tired of frequenting gas stations I'm strongly considering a change or two. No gas and virtually no maintenance is quite the proposition.

Such a low mpg is very common for very short distance driving. With only 600 miles in one year, this car sat around mostly and probably only did short trips, which would be a bigger concern for me. Previous owner didn't even get past the break in period, so one of my worries would be that the engine rarely reached full operating temperature and wasn't taken through the rev range for proper break in. My lifetime trip data was reset a while ago due to a software update, but my average speed over the last 3000 miles is 28 mph and I don't drive in traffic much, but cars are driven rather slowly on average, unless they spend all their time on open highways. With surface streets, traffic lights etc. the average speeds we can actually drive are surprisingly low.

Makes me sick when parents in car pick up lines sit there with their car running just so they can run the AC or heat or whatever.......blah.

Like this past Saturday night, I spent over an hour at the airport, car running. I didn't buy a car with climate control to be miserable and sweaty in it.

I have a 4 mile commute to work when I do drive in. Pretty much all my vehicles average in the 10 to 12 MPG range when just driven to work and back. Not a lot of idling in traffic, just cold engines, slow speeds, and stop lights.
Once I get any of the vehicles out on an actual drive, their average jumps up to something more expected for the given vehicle type, typically 18 to 25 MPG or so across the ones I drive regularly.

To the OP's original post, unless you have access to the historical engine data logs, I think it's virtually impossible to determine how the car was driven previously.
However, I think you can take solace in the fact that if any cars can be labeled as "severe duty", the E63 would be one. The car was literally designed to be driven hard and has the additional components engineering, added cooling, added fluid capacities, etc. to handle "abuse", so I wouldn't be concerned myself.
Another thought, given the very low miles, I've known people that have had cars they don't drive much and they would start them and let them run in the garage for like an hour or so at a time, thinking they are "keeping it alive". Really that only helps the engine, as a car needs to be driven to keep everything working properly. This could have been the case with yours, but who knows.
I think you got a new car for less than a new car costs, so I would enjoy that!
