It just cheapens everything for those customers who bought the new C’s and final edition E’s. Seems like a drastic reversal to me.

Speaking hypothetically, if they do bring out a hybrid V8 version, I echo the concerns folks have about the weight and complexity penalty. That and that interior is horrible. I get ADHD just looking at all those screens. And man do I hate the “digital vent controls.”

Until there is final word directly from MB on this, I reserve the right to be skeptical of this news.
I would agree with your point about speculation however the order books for the new C63 are EMPTY by dealer accounts. That says everything.

I don’t disagree with your point, friend. My point was that I was planning on waiting until an official announcement was made because this just seems like such a pie in the face moment for this brand. It almost seems humiliating because they so grossly miscalculated their own customer base with this new powertrain and roll out.

And regarding the new C63 and lack of orders, I’m sure the new price point isn’t helping to sell it either.

So I guess the Final Edition C63S isn't really a Final Edition. I saw this one at Mercedes of Naperville, IL. Will the ridiculous markups disappear?

I just saw one at the MB dealer in Mechanicsburg, PA. No ADM or markup on that one, and basically the same sticker price. We bought a GLS450 there and I would highly recommend them if you're shopping for a car. No ties to the dealership. They just treated us very well. Much better than my "home" dealership that we;ve been going to for years.

Just a reminder that this is CONJECTURE. That's it. Most are getting too excited, on & off this forum, imho. This is speculation. We have no idea whether they'll actually end up doing this or not. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong though. I simply read the same article as everyone else and it's just two senior engineers postulating.

$100k for a 2 liter 4 banger is just hard to swallow. I'm hearing that the M177 doesn't even fit in the engine bay of the W206, so where do they go from here? I think best scenario is that the C63 gets a 6 cylinder of some sort, and the E goes back to the V8. If you think the current C63 is a slaughter from a sales standpoint, wait for the W214.

According to the story, the W206 front end will be extended to fit the V8.

The M177 didn't fit in the W205 engine bay, either. So they extended it. The W205 C63 is longer than its lower sibling.

I definitely think this is crazy speculation. Perhaps they might make another Black Series or something with a V8 (and a $200k price tag), but I doubt they'd do such an about face on the future of the C63. Probably just waiting to ride out this generation and go all electric in the next one.

I didn't realize they were killing the V8. Got on the website to build and price a '23 E63 Wagon, called my guy to order one and stepped barefoot into a giant pile of disappointment. Got excited when I read that the V8 might come back but then the very next day I read a Mercedes development person shot that down with prejudice.

They killed the V12 and now the V8 - Mercedes officially no longer sells anything I want or need. The regular E series wagon might have been tolerable if they hadn't made it look like a Subaru Outback with the ridiculous rubber fenders. I have zero interest in EVs or hybrids and I'm not willing to risk the other cars I have by parking a potential lithium fire in or near the same structure. It's like Mercedes have decided to show customers like me the door.

Killed it only for the C & E class. You can still buy the V8 by increasing your budget and go for S, G, AMG GT, SL.

Correct. Extension isn't much at all but was obviously needed.

Sorry, should have been more clear; budget isn't my concern, the E63 wagon is. I need/want a wagon.

I would guess that all of the US non-FE wagons have been assigned and delivered (except for one). There were only 9 in the original allocation and no more appeared. No 2022 wagons exist either. That leaves you with resale units at this juncture.

This sounds more realistic than that nonsense being spewed by C&D. The idea that MB would dump the new drivetrain after a few months and do a complete about face seemed far fetched. If the order books continue to remain empty, it would make sense for them to just kill the car altogether rather than giving it another V8 just to sell whatever limited quantities it has been selling the last few years. Same with the E63s.

Will be happy to be proven wrong though.
